I was going to post in that thread but figured it might cause a chain reaction.

I think that a free item "thread" would be better served as a daughterboard to the buy/sell forum.  That way the "fresh" stuff is on top, rather than the bottom.  It might make it easier to add some pics and then the thread could be locked by the "gifter" when the item was shipped.

That way we could also post that a PM was sent requesting shipping so the "gifter" isn't flooded by 100 PM's.  That should also keep any "foul play" to a minimum.  Right now, if someone offers money, the "gifter" may be tempted to accept and bypass the first come/first served honor system that currently (I assume) in place.  That should limit any harsh feelings.

Geez, do I always use so many quotes?  I hafta learnt mine self bedder engrish. ;)

With the way the rules are written, all the fresh stuff will always be at the top, because after something is gone the message is supposed to be deleted be the poster.

I plan on moderating that thread closely, so this shouldn't be an issue.

IMO, a good rule for that thread might be if you claim something then you have to offer something. Obviously this is a rule that could be left to the honor system, but I claimed something and then felt like it would only be fair for me to offer something up myself.

Maybe we should leave what was givin away on the thread and name who got it so that person could post the next item.

IMO that would clutter the thread and make a chain out of the whole system rather than allowing it to "web out" well.

The system will remain as-is.  It's completely voluntary.  If you take something, it's your choice if you want to offer something else.

Not on purpose. But I guess I'm calling your bluff.

1) "After the item is claimed, delete the message offering the item, or at least edit the message stating that it has been claimed."

Since that thread will be moderated, after  time has elasped (I dunno how much, maybe a week, maybe two) and an item is still posted that has been claimed, I'll delete the post myself.

If an item hasn't been edited/claimed, I'll PM the OP and ask if the item is gone.  If it is, the post goes.  If not, yes it can stay for a while longer.  If I get *no* response, it goes.

Everytime a free item post is delete you lose the trail of what happened. This makes it hard to verify good traders if people don't post in the good traders thread.

So, what, add a rule that says the people that take the stuff should post in the good traders thread after the post in the Free items thread is deleted? This all seems far too complicated for something that was working just fine before.

It would seem like anyone who posted something they were giving away in the free items thread would be a "good trader"

I mean there giving stuff away.  and to be honest with you I never check the good traders thread. If I don't trust you already anyways reading about you in the good treaders thread isn't going to change anything.

Hey Baby, Have you ever met a Newbie with 38 pages of previous posts before? Do you Want to?

It's working fine now; you're unnecessarily complicating things.

It's quite simple: if you have something you want to give away, post it in the free thread.  Once it's gone, remove your post.

Who cares about a trail to follow?  It's about either sharing something you have too much of, or getting rid of something that you don't want/need.

I'm complicating things? I haven't added any rules to the Buy/Sell/Trade forum, you did. You changed things. I don't even have the power to do that.

Theres nothing from stoping you posting something in the good traders thread if you really want to. And if you need a copy of the transaction theres always Ctrl+P.

It's not a rule of the B/S/T forum, it's a rule of that thread.  Anyone can post free stuff in the B/S/T forum, but the Official Free Items thread is...well...official.

Quote
For example, Flinkly offered a cabinet for free in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum , but wanted me to ship him a piece of it. He asked for references so that he knew he was dealing with an honest person. It's easy to give references when there are threads with people you can point to. This new system destroys all that information.

I wonder, why not ask people to delete all posts in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum when the item is gone? Especially if there's no need for a trail?

You're getting pretty cranky over this.  I've stated how it works.  If you don't agree, well...sorry. Use it, don't use it, it's all the same.

There's no new system.  These rules apply *only* to the free stuff thread.
