INFO: Japanese Coin Mech Mod
« on: May 07, 2005, 10:47:28 pm »
Hey everyone, thanks for checking out my thread. I recently purchased and am waiting to receive a Neo29 Japanese sitdown style arcade cabinet. Because its a Japanese cabinet, it takes Japanese currency (yen). I was wondering if anyone out there on these forums has had any luck modding the coin mech to allow American currency (quarters .25)? If anyone has done this before or can point me in the right direction, that would be much appreciated. Below are some pictures of the cabinet I bought.

How about a picture of the coin mech & door in question?

Strangely enough, I spent a good 45 minutes to an hour today messing around with the coin mech in my Super Neo 29 to see if I could get it to properly pass quarters, to no avail.  At this point I'm wondering if the mounting tabs are the same as those sold by Happ - looking at the pictures on Happ's site I'm guessing they are, and at this point I'm thinking it would be worth $15-20 to not have to mess with the thing anymore.

But maybe I'm missing something obvious...  *shrug*

What I meant was like the inner mechanics of the coin acceptor. When I got off the phone with the guy selling me these cabinets, he said that you have to remove the "magnets" and also to use a pair of plyers to bend the metal inside somewhere. I suppose it's near where the switch is, inside. I'll try to get more details...but, until then, anyone with a Japanese cabinet modded to accept quarters? Or do you all just have them as decorative?

My super neo 29 had a metal plate that was under the main coin acceptor.

It had 2 cutout for different size coins.
I just use a dremel to size one of them out to accept a quarter.

The actual coin mech is a regular snap in model.
