WTB - Arcade VGA to RGB SCART cable (UK)
« on: May 06, 2005, 06:25:44 pm »
Hi Guys,

I am in desperate need of a pre-wired/pre-soldered/fully functioning cable to connect my Arcade VGA card to my RGB enabled, SCART equipped TV.

I am the worlds worst solderer...I have tried...but my handywork is useless - the cable I have here is very temperamental, and I don't want to have to open the back of my cabinet every 5 minutes to get a picture briefly.

Many thanks...

Rob.

Sorry to jump in on your thread but I was wondering if you could tell me what the results are like using the arcade vga and a tv?
I'm thinking of going down the rgb scart route as well, is it fairly straight forward?

using an AVGA card to a scart rgb connection TV is effectively the same as a std res arcade monitor

this might do it but its meant to be used in opposite way (SCART to SVGA) its for connecting a DVD player to a projector.

[edit] second thoughts it might not be suitable anyway as it has built in amp and sync splitter circuitry

http://www.keene.co.uk/cgi-bin/bigcodesearch.pl?SGB12

but bloody hell those prices are way toooooo high!

just get a scart connector from maplins and old SVGA cable. cut the end off and solder wires to correct pins on the scar connect. couple of quid should do it if you already got a SVGA cable.

its not that difficult to solder really.

just a matter of finding correct wires and linking them to connect pins on the scart connector

I've just ordered a cabel from www.keene.co.uk as I too tried to solder a cable with useless results.
You need to phone them and ask for the ati radeon cable without audio.( it's built to these specs-http://ryoandr.free.fr/english.html?  )
It cost's

can I just ask....

if I was to connect one of these bought cables to a different card, ie a geforce 4 card, would the quality be any worse than using an arcadeVGA card?  just trying to keep budget down a bit and a shame to buy another gfx card if I still have several old unwanted gfx cards lying around.

cheers,
Tuck

if you connected one of those cables to a GeForce 4 then connected it to your TV, not only would it not work but you could damage your TV, the ArcadeVGA outputs at 15khz, a GF4 would output at 31k.

you could try using software like PowerStrip to try and obtain 15k from your GeForce but I am not sure if it would work

does anybody know exactly which type of those cables I would need to buy/make (with the h and v sync or not), that would be suitable for connecting to a gf2 or gf4...then I could use VNC, powerstrip and an old 14inch TV as a tester and take the chance of it breaking the tv....what happens for dos though, does that show up as vnc only kicks in on windows loading doesn't it?  so could it damage a telly on that portion of the bootup sequence

cheers,
Tuck

Hi

We can make the following cable. We can make this cable for you and the disclaimer detailed would apply. For a one or two meter cable it would be

called them back again, requested without the audio, so yep 35quid....so I ordered it - said about 7-10days - mind he never said anything about a delivery charge.....just aswell I ordered an arcadevga card today then :)  do you still have to run powerstrip when using arcadevga, or am guessing it skips that step

if your using AVGA you dont need powerstrip, the AVGA outputs at 15k which is the suitable for low res arcade monitors and Scart TV's

please post your results/opinions when you receive it
