WTB: centering grommet for Wico balltop joysticks
« on: May 04, 2005, 11:18:22 pm »
I am looking for some replacement centering rings for what I think are Wico balltop joysticks. They are from a 6-player X-Men that I am restoring. On several of the joysticks, when I am removing the shaft from the base, the centering rings have torn out of the rubber. Anyway, I was hoping someone might have these or know of a source for them. Here's a pic of the rings. The two on the left are good ones, the one on the right is a torn one.

Thanks,
dxvyper

I see them for sale on Ebay listed as Robotron grommets from time to time.  None right now, though.

Alternately, you could buy some of the NOS 4-way Wico sticks ebay seller "Nicade" seems to have a limitless supply of.

Swap the grommets from the 4-way sticks into your 8-way X-men sticks.  You could swap over the new leafswitches, actuators, springs, etc. as well, as long as you're at it, and get a complete rebuild.  If you want to go that route, I would buy the leftover 4-way bodies off of you.

Grommets... That's the word I was looking for.  :)

The ones "Nicade" is offering don't look like a match for mine, as mine are using microswitches, and the base looks a little different. I can't tell from his picture if the grommets are actually included, so I've sent him an email.

If his will work, and I can't find them anywhere else, I might take you up on your offer.

His sticks ship complete, including grommet.  The grommets inside are the same for leaf and microswitch Wicos, so they ought to work just fine.  PM me if you go that route.
