Illuminating Trackball
« on: May 04, 2005, 04:27:06 pm »
I've got my Happ's 3" trackball and I have my ultrabrite LED's and my Happs bulb holders.  Anyone have a good suggestion as to where and how to mount the LED?  I should have over an inch between my control panel and the trackball.  Thanks.

Well you mount it right under the trackball center where there's a gap in the casing.  Ive heard of people using velcro to hold it in place, maybe just some strong tape/glue could hold it too.  I also saw a really good one where a flashlight reflector was used to concentrate the light to that hole only....

I used one of these LED cannons:

Using the adhesive on the LED base and some extra reinforcment tape, I mounted it right on the edge of the hole and directed the light straight up into the trackball.

I used a pcb mounting foot so the led points towards the trackball.  Lights up better this way:

I put 3 right below the center of the hole by poking them through a piece of carboard taped to the trackball housing. Very high tech!  ;)
It lights up beautifully!

Ahofle,

They are a bulb holder that Happ's sells that goes behind the coin door.  They fit a 12v LED perfectly and have two prongs to wire it up.  They are a white plastic.  Part number is 42-0351-00.
