But it should work perfectly with atleast some mame gun games.Since it does work with windows perfectly..

It seems to function as a mouse...i'm really interested to see how this works... and more importantly - can we get two working at once (probably not... this has been discussed adnauseum...)

Well I got two of them... I'll post my findings. But if these work using the PS2 or Serial ports I don't see why you couldn't get them workin. Just by using the duel mouse drivers for games like Marble Maddness.

I could be wrong and often am!

That's interesting, Act-Lab's site says those two games use relative positioning, instead of absolute values for the mouse, I wonder how it gets around that.

I purchased one buy it now, even if the gun doesn't work with other games its still worth it. Now I can't wait to get it.

Hmm, it plays virtua cop 2 pretty good but in mame it only seems to work on the top half of the screen. It does work though so thats a positive thing. I haven't loaded house of the dead yet. I'll play with it some more and report back again.

Did you try "calibrating" it in any game menu/dip settings of virtua cop 2 (know what I mean?)

I calibrated it in virtua cop 2 but and it works well for that. The calibration doesn't work like the manual says. I can't get it to calibrate in House of the dead. I've only spent a few minutes with it so far so I'm sure I'll figure it out.

It should work in mame. Its just a mouse with its own hardware box that flashes the screen. I have to figure out the calibration thing since it doesn't seem to work the way the instructions say.

hmm... I thought mame did the white flash on it's own in software... (or was that the pre act labs usb gun supporting versions of mame) cuz that's what the original roms did? Would that make a double flash?

*shrug* I'm confused... I ordered one, and I'm hopeful that i'm getting a act labs usb one for x-mas... i'm still curious if we can get two of these suckers to work at once... although I imagine the dual white/blanking could be an issue...

btw, these have been out for a while... and nobody seems to say good things about them with mame.... Because the calibration maybe...

Try this. Force mame to run at the same exact resolution and refresh as Virtual Cop (or whatever) and calibrate it in VC... then run mame.

OR... make it so mame CANT change resoluitons and try to do the same with VC.

This might do it..

btw, does it work like a mouse? or a joystick?

lilwolf, it's my assumption is that it functions like a mouse as it requires a ps/2 or serial port - but maybe eightbit could clarify that =)

It functions as both a mouse and a joystick as it plugs into both. It has a PS/2 bypass that when I plugged my PS/2 trackball into I got erratic results. So I plugged the gun in as a serial mouse and my ps/2 mouse back in normal. Now the PS/2 mouse works fine and the gun is seen as a serial mouse. The gun also plugs into your joystick port and into your monitor port. Your monitor then plugs into it. The reason for the monitor plug is that it has a box that flashes the screen when you squeeze the trigger so this is how it works with games that don't support lightguns.

Anymore testing lately eightbit? would love to hear more gory details, and which mame games (if any worked well with it)
