point taken elvis..

i am a very experienced windows user and a pretty savvy learner...my inexperience with these issues was a smoke screen i guess. i wish linux was easier to use and configure... i'd love to use it as my main os ...just not ready for it

YEah, if you don't use the popular hardware you can end up with problems, like the wifi thing.  I have a dlink and orinoco wifi card, linux had no problems with it.

ATI is good to have, they release linux drivers for most of their cards too.
