Arcade Analog Stick
« on: April 29, 2005, 04:01:45 pm »
Ok I start at this all wrong. I didn't start taking pictures till I was already good in the workings. But let me explain what this is going to be.A few years ago I picked up a Red Octane playstation controller. It was fun for a while, but I quickly got bored with it. I didn't like the joystick too much(For like an extra bit of change I could got happs but I didn't realize that till I hit confirm) So it sat in my drawer for a while.... ok years.

Anyway I whipped it out a few days ago and started taking it apart. Then (as stated above) I decided to start taking pictures of my progress. So what I'm going to do is, I put a happs 49 way stick in there currently. I had to do a whole lot of filing to get it thin enough to mount. Since i didn't make it from scratch, flush mounting was out of the question.

I have to get new plexi(Since the first glass I had on cracked during their shipping) so I'm gonna get an Overlay done for it as well.

Heres an image of insides before I calmly ripped the wires out.

Then I removed the buttons.

More Pics as I make progress.

Still trying to get the joystick bottom to stop rubbing against the inside of the joystick box. I'm going to have to figure something out and soon. I'm running out of wood to shave. I've recived the buttons that I needed today, so I'm going to start wiring up tonight. Then it's off to get work done for the control panel.

Man I need a new camera.

Why don't you add spacers all the way around the base or replace the base? That would give you the depth you need. Just make the whole thing a little bit taller. It's hard to explain in words.

You could also route out the top portion where you attach the joystick from underneath. Basically, you'd be sinking the joystick into the bottom of the top panel. (Did that make any sense?) Of course, you'd need a router for that, and not everybody has one.
