bezel glass -tinted or not tinted

I know there exist both of them on arcade machines - but what is common?

What did they use on the 80s classic games, such as Centipede, DonkeyKong, Gyruss?
Is it better to play/look when it's tinted? (e.g. reflections, still enough brightness left with tinted glass?)

On my MAME cab, http://www.instantlink.com/mame/ if ya want to see it. I used regualar gray plate glass and I like it, the monitor I used was a 27" television.

My Tron and Centipede use plain see-thru glass / plexi. My Crystal castles and Space Duel use tinted glass. I personally prefer tinted glass as you see less of the monitor. Although brightness may suffer a bit, I think overall it looks better with tinted glass. Old monitors are brownish and the tinted glass hides that, particularly for games that have big black areas. I don't think Space Duel (vector) would look as good without the tinted glass.

Thanks, guess I'll go with tinted glass! :) Black areas should look much better in vector or something like Gyruss.
