NEO GEO MVS Cabinet dimensions...
« on: April 23, 2005, 05:34:13 pm »
i did one of these threads about a year ago, and got some replies, but as of yet, no dimensions.  i'm just doing another call out to all you guy's to see if anyone with a dedicated neo geo cabinet could rip off some dimensions from the side panel.

first, as i know someone will say it, the dimensions on jakobud's site aren't what i'm looking for.  thats the larger (uglier) cabinet, and i'm looking for the smaller cabinet.  second, i can't "get" the dimensions i need off of the jakobud site.  it just doesn't work like that.  thats like saying you could get moon patrol dimensions off of a picture of a moon patrol.  lastly, if your going to offer to take dimensions off your cab, they need to be accurate and i actually need them (aka, most people who offer dimensions never give them).

thanks for all the help guys, and i hope you can help me out since i'd love to get this all out of the way.  and if it makes you feel any better, alot of other people want these dimesnions too, so you'll be helping alot of people out.

*Which* "smaller" cabinet do you mean ?

The NGs came in a pretty wide variety of flavours and sizes.

http://www.hardmvs.com/html/cabphotos.htm

I have a dedicated MVS-2-25 and am happy to put a tape on it for you, but I suspect that it may be "uglier" than you want.   :P

EDIT: I found your original thread and it would appear that the 2-25 is exactly what you want the dimensions from. PM me and we'll get it done.

Cheers.

I just finished gathering the parts I need to put together a 2 slot cab as well..

Anyone that could get me PRECISE measurements of a MVS-2-25, I will make it worth your trouble!

OK ... will finish reading all 9 pages of the Cabinet Dimensions thread and have a look at the stuff on JakoBud's site.

Then I'll measure up my 2-25, take some photos and post the results.

If anyone has any advise or requests that aren't covered in the Cabinet Dimensions thread, please let me know (all seems straightforward so far).

Cheers.

Flinkly has passed along a dimension chart for the side panel, which I'll be completing in the next day or so.

If anybody wants other measurements (e.g. front, back panels, CP, coin door or interior), let me know ASAP. Can also take detailed pictures for those interested.

Let me know.

Cheeers.

Whatever dimensions and photos you can supply would be much appreciated.
Most important are the side panels of course, but it would be nice to get some basic dimensions of the rest of the cabinet, as well as an idea of what the PCB mount looks like.

Thanks in advance!

on a tangent, does anyone know what the real mvs cp overlay looks like?  i've seen about two "real-looking" versions, and alot of fakes (on ebay and several online arcade sites).  as for ones actually on mvs machines machines, i've seen about 3 that look to be original.  are there just two or three different versions done by snk?  i don't see this really happening since there is no need to make a new cp overlay, why not use the same old one?

so feel free to give any input.  i'd really love to hear from paigeoliver on this one though, he seems to be a general arcade game/cabinet guru.

Thanks for the PMs and e-mails ... I will be taking those extra pictures and measurements tonight.

I've been looking for a replacement CPO and have only seen one that "matches" the original on my cabinet (with the clear boxes for the LED credit counters), and that was for a 6-Slot machine. Everything else doesn't have the credit counter spot (or perhaps they have, but I missed it).

Cheers.

Somewhat on topic ... here is an auction for a new Neo Geo CPO (and Happ buttons and joysticks).

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=13716&item=6174089476&rd=1

What is interesting is that the seller explains that the CPO is not the original "thick plastic" overlay, but instead the overlay that has been used since 1997. This one at least has the windows for the credit indicators...

i guess they made several different overlays, and i probably shouldn't worry much about which one i end up with.  even if i used a knock-off one, i would be the only one to know the difference...

i guess i'll just start looking around and find one i like best.  thanks for the help anyways.

If by top angle you mean the front top corner, then yes it is  90 degrees.

Haven't forgotten this ... have a buddy bringing my protractor back tommorow, so will measure the monitor angle directly.

Hopefully get the rest of the pictures taken in the next few days.

...just remember to start at the real corner, and not the rounded one.  you'll probably need to make light pencil marks on the side of the cab to go off of.

also, i'm sure you already know all this, but i'm just making sure.   ;D

My protractor has "arms", so don't need to line a dot up with the corner to measure the angle. just need to put the arms along the edges and all should be good.

[EDIT: I did a lousy job explaining this ... must need sleep ... the protractor is designed to allow you to take decent measurements, even if you can't get  to the side or into the corner]

here's a pic of a rendition at the arcade art library.  it looks close to what i have seen on cabinets, but i'm no authority.  i guess i'm looking around to see what the old one was.  well, tell me what you think.

it seems to me that the buttons are a bit low and i only remember one edge being pointy on the black button surround, not both.

Hey I did that overlay, I just drew it up from an top view of and original NEO MVS Picture Overlay. But who knows!! I hope my overlay works for you

Anyways if your interested I have the original visio FILE just in case you want to tinker a bit with it

jakobud?  please?  i'm trying to get this together.  if you've got some input, or would love to tell me what i'm doing wrong, then please provide it.  since you'll probably, ultimately, be providing this on your website, i need to at least make you happy.

just trying to get this thing done...so i'm bumping it up.  i would really love to hear what you have to say jakobud, and cheffo, remember that we still need that one last angle.  after that, i'll try to make up a drawing with dimensions that you would need to make one yourself.

so...bump.

Any word on how the dimensions are coming along for this project? I'm curious because I think I've finally decided to make a replica built for me by some vendors and people I know. I also got to play Metal Slug 2 on one of these just last week when I was in Vegas. I loved it! It reminded me of the majority of local arcade cabs when I was in middle and high school. Now I'm lucky if I even get to see a real one every few years... :(

At the very least could I get some dimensions on the control panel? That way I can start to plan out some custom graphics for a couple of swapable panels in addition to the traditional layout. If needed I could recreate some of the artwork for any portion of this project (I'm a professional designer). I would just need a good source picture or scan and I would translate it to vector, Freehand or Illustrator. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Thanks!

Ah, good luck with that pesky "real life" stuff :)   I know how it goes... I've been pulling insane hours at work, so as a bonus my boss is going to contribute to my cab project. That's why I'm going to have the cab produced for me and I can just finish off the electronics and graphics in my spare time.

Thanks for the CP dimensions!

Hi there!

Time has come for me to build a Cab, at least I think so :)

After searching for plans through the internet, i found the right one for me - the mvs -25

Like some guys before me, i have the same problem - I donīt like the MVS 4-25 ver. 2 or ver. 3 - iīm interested in plans for the mvs 1-25/2-25 or 4-25(ver 1).

I followed all threads in this board, but i didnīt find the full measurement for the cab.

My question is: so many posts have been done around the mvs -25 (ver 1) cab -> is anybody around who owns the cab and can tell me the full measurement or is anybody around who knows the measurement? (Flinky?)

Thanks!

Hello,
I am desperately trying to build a repoduction NeoGeo MVS 2-25 cab, but for this I need the dimensions ... someone can help me?

I go through pages and pages of this wonderful forum, and this subject seems to me closest to what I'm looking, bad luck, can not be accessed.

CheffoJeffo or Flinkly, can you send me a starting point?
Thanks!  :)

Same with me, though as old as this post is I'm not holding hope of info.  I think my best bet is to take Jakobud's rev 3 dimensions, overlay the detailed diagram posted in this thread and fudge the numbers until they look right  :D

Could somebody send me cab blueprints too? I'm trying to build a 100% scale replica from no SNK parts except a board, so I need a starting point.
