Not so new, but I was just introduced to The Honorary Title.  Great stuff.  Kind of like the Strokes meets a small dose of Wilco.  Speaking of which, if you don't have the newest Strokes album you're in sad shape, but that's a few years old now, I think.

Beck - Guero, and also the Gameboy Variations EP.

The Gameboy Variations ep should be entertaining to anyone into NES era gaming.

Check out anything from Paranoid Social Club.

It's not exactly new, but you probably haven't heard it, as it's had rather limited distribution.  Check out their website at http://www.pscmusic.com and you can listen to some free samples.  Two Girls and Wasted are pretty catchy.

I've been listening to The Arcade Fire's album Funeral a lot lately.

Just listened to it and its very melo...

If you like that melo stuff, then you'll probably like Jack Johnson "In Between Dreams"

I "got" Morrissey - Live at Earls Court, its ok as its a good mix between the Smiths stuff and his new.  If you liked that you'll like the new New Order CD called "Waiting for the Sirens Call"   I'm  surprised on how much I liked it.
Link 1

Also got Bloc Party's - Silent Alarm.  Its a good mix of  rock n'roll & punk.
Link

And The Mars Volta  - "Frances the Mute" CD is good too. -- Listen to Track 2 on the preview, its very good.

I just ordered a ton of new music.  It should all be downloaded soon.  Here are the albums I ordered (long list...if you're not interested in reading it all, skip to the end.  You don't want to miss what I have to say after the list):

50 Cent - The Massacre
Beck - Guero
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
Eminem - Encore
Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
Green Day - American Idiot
Gwen Stefani - Love, Angel, Music, Baby
M - Qui De Nous Deux  (French)
Pavement - Brighten The Corners
The Killers - Hot Fuss
The Strokes - Is This It?
The Strokes - Room On Fire
The Von Bondies - Pawn Shoppe Heart
Wilco - A Ghost Is Born
Wilco - Summer Teeth
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Fever to Tell

I listed all of that so ya'll would know that I bought it all for under $10.  Now, obviously, I did NOT get this music from iTunes.  Buying that much music from iTunes would cost nearly $250 at $.99 per song.  Plus Digital Rights Management (DRM) just isn't my style.  It also bugs that no music players besides iPod support iTunes (even though I have an iPod).

No, I got it all from www.allofmp3.com

This place is amazing.  They're based out of Russia, but when you go to their site just click the "English" link and everything will become readable.  They have an enormous selection of music from all over the world and they charge 1 cent per megabyte.  You have a huge selection of what format you want to download in, from MP3 to WMA, OGG Vorbis, MPEG-4, MPC right on up to multiple lossless formats (for which you still only pay about 30 cents per song).  In addition to choosing the format, you can also choose the bitrate.  For the record, I chose to have my MP3s encoded at 192 VBR (technically ABR, I think) with the LAME encoder.  If I'd chosen 128 it would have been even cheeper, and of course I could have pushed it all the way up to 320 if I'd wanted.

You prepay, which can be done via credit card, paypal, or with prepaid iCards from XROST.com.  I did a prepaid iCard because the Paypal functionality at AllofMP3 was down and didn't want to give a russian website my credit card info.  Since you can buy the iCards with Paypal and it seriously takes about 30 seconds to set up an XROST account I chose this route as it's essentially a way to use Paypal with AllofMP3.

Definitely download the AllofMP3 Explorer program to manage your downloads.  It makes the whole thing painless and if you download the catalogue you can even shop for music right from the program.

All I can say is WOW.  17 full albums for under $10.  And you can purchase per song too.  You don't have to get full albums if you don't want to.  Oh yeah, and you can listen to samples of every song they sell, but unlike most music services, you can stream THE WHOLE SONG -- not just 30 random seconds of it.  Check these guys out.  Do a google search.  They've been reviewed by quite a few publications.

I'll just put in my 2-cents that downloading music from allofmp3.com isn't legal unless you're in russia.
Quote
In the User Agreement Allofmp3 states that you may not use the service if it is in conflict with the legislation of your country.

Quote
Russian copyright legislation allows phonograms to be performed publicly without the authorization of the copyright owner for broadcasting and cable transmission. (Article 39) The Internet could be deemed to fall under this exemption. The copyrights involved have to be paid to a collecting society. This is the 'loophole' that is referred to in several articles on Allofmp3.

Quote
assuming they have legitimate licenses to distribute the music, they probably are restricted to a certain geographic are via their distribution license. The end user wouldn't be violating any laws but the distributor would. If they don't have legitimate distribution licenses then they obviously have no right to distribute at any price. If they claim to have the licenses the end user might be seen as an innocent infringer if not on notice.

I'd be pretty interested to know more about it.  If they simply had no license to distribute the music I wonder why there is plenty of new and popular music that they don't have.  For example, they don't carry a single Dave Matthews album.

I have no doubt that they are skirting the line legally (and tend to suspect that, for the most part, they fall on the wrong side of that line).  But they apparently are not operating with no restrictions whatsoever.

One thing I do know, is that's some CHEAP music.

And a big shout-out to all those artists in my list if they aren't getting paid anything for these purchases:  Thanks all the same!!!

Yeah, here too.  Radio has a way of doing that.  I really like Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" but the radio, and XM for that matter too, killed it by overplaying it.

Did some research - near as I can tell, the jury is out but leaning towards allofmp3.com being a legal, albeit via a serious loophole, distribution venue. Couple of links:

http://techlawadvisor.com/blog/2004/04/is-allofmp3com-legal.html

http://3cx.org/item/21/catid/10

Among several others...

So, for now, listing allofmp3.com doesn't violate the no-illegal-roms rule. Don't count on it being legal for long though!

Sadly, I'd take any of those people over DMB.  At least I can tune out their mindless, manufactured droning.  DMB has a unique level of craptitude that is hard to ignore.

Okay...well, whatever.  I think he's good, you think he sucks.  Either way, I doubt that his absence from their catalog is an allofmp3 protest against especially crappy music.

True.  And it doesn't matter anyway, since you can just download it on BitTorrent and have it be just as legal as allofmp3.com.
