Maybe he just wants the photo of you with no shirt. ;D

From what I've seen these cabs sell in two categories.  one is to people who really don't know anything about the hobby.  They are really interested in MAME and that is essentially what they are paying for.  They'll pay what every they have.  past 2500

The other is to people who are looking for a deal  and they won't even give what it's worth in parts.  They go for like 400- 800.  There's no way I'd do that.

I have sold a few to my friends and I simply added up the cost and sold it for what I put into it.  If he is just a work aqaintance tac on 200 and see if he'll go for it.

OTOH your cab is as nice as the one's that people get ripped off on all the time.  If you really want to look for a sucker you could e-bay it and be patient.  I'm sure someone would pick it over the "time Machine" and such

What did it cost you and how much time did you put into it?
How good a friend is this guy?

Don't forget if you sell it to somebody you know, they'll expect you to support it as well.

Its a shame you have some real big ticket items in there--i.e. things that are cool to have but people don't want to pay for.  For instance--a 1500$ computer--you could throw in a 200$ one and only lose maybe a dozen games.  Also the control panel lights--agreed they are uber sexy but i wouldn't pay 100$ more for them..  For the relatively simple cabs I have sold they went from $850 (19" monitor, p3 450, free berzerk cab) to 1200 (25" monitor in new dynamo cab)  I didn't have any bells and whistles like you do so you would get more than that I'm sure.

And like they mentioned above, factor in your support cause invariably someone resets the configuration--how is beyond me--and its up to you to make it right...

I forgot to mention that comparing to ebay prices is only valid if you intend to package and ship the cabinet nationwide (figure on an additional $250-350).  Its typically what your local economy will bare.

(one of my pet peeves are sellers that quote ebay prices as what something is worth but have no intention of selling it outside their own postal/zip code so it would never sell for that...)

Hey
Yea this is true. It is not that I do not love playing it, just that the wife and I just bought a house and we could use the money for other things. PLUS it means I can make a new one! :)

I guess I will see if anyone is interested....any takers..make a fair price it's yours. I would hate to ebay it.....I really do not wish to ship it. I would rather have one of the group members get it......

I am just starting to fish around as to what is worth,........open to offers if any interest.

I am in Ontario, CANADA

Do you have a replacement machine already built, because honestly that is too nice to sell. There are a lot of the little bells and whistles that make it an awesome machine, but that don't really add a lot of value. Cab buyers are more interested in the games than they are in the quality of the builds, custom artwork or lighting.

Last time I sold a Mame cabinet I brought it to superauctions, there were like 4 other 19" Mame cabinets there, and frankly mine was the worst looking one, I had just tossed it together from spare parts. But mine was the ONLY 19" vertical 4-way cabinet there and it went for more than the other ones did (and the other ones were all buy backs). Basically mine sold for the most not because it was the best, but because it was the only one that did a decent job of playing Ms. Pac-Man.

Oh forgot to mention--you might want to take a good picture (one without you in it with your shirt off cause your consumer is 25-35 males who really don't want to see that  :P) and write up a nice flashy ad and post it in grocery stores and whoever will let you post things like this.  I did this for my last one--more on a whim and it sold within a week.  Just remember your ad can say alot more than you could on ebay or in the paper so make good use of the words  ;)

Also, if you are ever building them just to sell, then forget about horizontal monitors or Streetfighter layouts. I haven't done a whole lot of those to sell, but even when I did I felt like a total tool when all the buyers cared about checking out was Ms. Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, and Galaga. I decided never to build another horizontal one to sell again after the buyer for the last one came to pick it up (fast computer, horizontal monitor, trackball, streetfighter layout), and all he cared about was Pac-Man and Donkey Kong.

If you are building to sell build 4-way, vertical, with 2 buttons. Populate your gamelist with games that use those controls (there are like 94 of them). You will only need a 350 mhz computer, and your buyers will be happier with it. The 4-way games are what they REALLY want and building anything else is going to cost you more and provide them with a sub-par product.

With past experiance in selling stuff. I estimate the value at $3000-$3500.  I would love to know what you think of my appraisal.  This figure is of course based on a few cabs I built that are a little less powerfull. that figure incudes ones labor to build as well as the going rate/prices for new controls and pc equip alike.

well i guess it depends on your market. I built the cabs for people wanting them. 1400 basically amount to the cost of supplies. you don't build them for free do you? they were in the nature of 24-2500.

Hey,
I am sorry...I was proud of that...(not proud in the other way  ) I am married to a female ehehe......I just happended to have my shirt off as it was summer......sorry if your not a fan...(if you are a fan I do have some Calendars !!! hahhahheh)

I am still 20 mins south of Hamilton, Ontario. All I ask is fair price for the complete cabinet. I guess I would sell it in parts...ie) cab....computer separate ....if interested!! I also have a few other pcs around.. i will hook em up and see what they are..can swap to a slower pc..or sell those.

I do need to sell or TRADE it cause it will not fit in any other room in our new house other than the living room..and its an eye sore there......I would like to give the msg board ppl the opportunity first..then I am not sure... any suggestions on the quickest/best way to sell it..what would EBAY accomplish?

thx

I had an all in one unit listed on this board.  It was a computer built into a Super Street fighter showcase control panel it had:
Two happs 360s
keywiz,
14 brand new buttons
Computer

It was setup and ready to go.  Plus everything was brand new (minus the panel).  I had tons of interest until I announced a 250 price.  Then nothing.  Basically the interested parties wanted me to buy new stuff, put it together for them and then give it to them for less than I paid.  It's a DIY forum and everyone is looking for a deal.  You are really going to do better with someone outside the hobby.

They will also be super happy with the purchase.  Show them your machine and some more expensive inferior machines online and they will realize what a great deal they are getting.  You'll get what you deserve and so will the customer.

I had very disappointing results with ebay.  First off if you list on ebay.ca and put pickup only, it won't be cross listed with ebay.com.  Secondly I put a reserve on mine and the auction didn't even close on what the parts were worth but still had to pay 30$ or whatever it was for using reserve.  I would make every effort to sell locally and pretty much forget about selling it here--mostly because the guys on this board either have one or are building one...

Also, make sure you clearly state that people can come tire kick anytime its convenient--Alot of folks have no idea what the true capabilities of the machine are but once they see it and play it, that all changes.
