which is preferred for strength/stability? solder or crimp?
is that insert/removal tool worth getting?
what do you use to house the *length* of the 25 wires? (and i don't mean the D-sub hood)

Cut the cable in the middle and run one end to the CP and one end to the encoder. No need to crimp or solder if you do this, and often it's cheaper than buying the connectors separately.
i noticed that when i cut my db25 printer cable in half, there were only ~9 wires in it. i guess on one end, they are either shared or not used.are there db25's that actually have all 25 wires to each pin?
