He'll be the second to last pope, before the end of the world, so I hope he's young.

I hope he goes fast (not death, maybe retirement), so we can get to the last Pope and prove all you wackos wrong.

I'm looking forward to it!

At 77, Ratzinger is the oldest of the eligible candidates for pope.

Well, as someone hoping for a more progressive, modern church, Ratzinger is, in effect, one of the most fundamentalist candidates available, so we're going to get doctrine fit for the middle ages instead of 2005. Oh well, maybe it'll turn more people away from organized religion and further into organized thought.

DD,
If you're going to put words in my mouth, at least get the facts straight... I was Roman Catholic, my family are still practicing Roman Catholics (So I still get the privilege of sitting/standing/kneeling/sitting/standing/kneeling at every baptism, wedding and funeral). I went to catholic school, even served time as an altar boy, although I seemed to have gotten lucky, and was never molested. Went to church Mon-Fri (6am) ...every day, plus Sunday mass.

I've earned the right to criticize this religion.

I didn't notice that you quoted Dartful, who had quoted me (and paraphrased badly)...so it looked like you wrote it...sorry, I've corrected the above post to reference DD.

His joke was funny though...although, I'm not sure it's really a joke. He gets really excited when evil people get elected to positions of power. Part of some sort of Napoleonic complex or something.

The older the guy the stinkier the gas too.   It's a double-edged sword there just to keep the seat warm.

Reuters just released this photo of the new pope during the conclave.

Looks like he used some electricity and possibly mind tricks to get the vote swung his way.  ;)

Let us not forget that countries should never attempt to align themselves along geo-political borders, but strictly along religious ones. I mean if you had to define the phrase "bridge builder" for an ESL friend you could pretty much just use that as the negative.  :'(

This kind of thing always reminds me of the sci-fi stories dealing with a group of people living in a fall-out shelter after a nuclear holocaust. They come out of hiding a hundred years later to discover that society has changed quite dramatically, but for some unfathomable reason they decide it's their responsibility to reverse the new civilisation back to its pre-war state...  ::)
Done. SLATFATF.

I try to stay out of religion. ( other persons that is)
I am Christian.  never cared to find out what the difference is between Baptist, Methodist. all the same to me.

what good is a pope fore? no need to flame me. I really am asking
I do believe in God and think all have the right to believe what they want.

I just don't like most churches. They pressure me to much. Ready to get baptised? NO. I like to smoke , drink, and I Can't help my self if I see a sharp babe I do want to see he NAKED  ;D
I know I am a heathen.
