« on: April 17, 2005, 10:26:06 pm »
guys,

im after a link or any info on a 4 player control panel, its about the same as the ultamite arcade 2 panel.

player 1 6 buttons
player 2 6 buttons
player 3 4 buttons
player 4 4 buttons

4 8-ways
1,2,3 & 4 "white" player buttons
5 admin buttons
2 pinball buttons

should i have a coin button for each player, or one that does the lot.

Im a noob in desperate need of advice

Thanks guys in advance

You probably want a coin button for each player.

See my comments about Gauntlet here.

Yes on the coin buttons (or at least coin mechs).  I had it at 2 for about 6 months and it was pretty amazing how many times I needed to get the keyboard out.  Doesn't happen all the time, but enought that you notice.

Also take note.

Player 1 + 4 buttons
Player 2 + 6 buttons
Player 3 + 6 buttons
Player 4 + 4 buttons.

Then configuration is a pain either way you do it though.  I wrote a TON of code to allow my frontend to configure my encoder for 1-3 player games and 4 player games like above.

Now I have them in different rom directories.. And I configure mame for each seperately.  Then use a frontend that can use more then one version of mame.  I still use my frontend, but don't really program the encoder for it anymore.... Still can, but dont.

(Its also nice to setup your games this way for all the streetfighter games with buttons 1-3 and 4-6 are swapped)

I'm doing 6 buttons for P1 and P2, 4 buttons for P3 and P4,
4 unique player starts, 4 unique player coins, and 5 admin buttons.

Are there many NeoGeo games that actually use 7 buttons?

There are exactly ZERO Neo geo games that use 7 buttons.  The 7 button neo layout is so you can have a complete fighter setup.  It covers the 6 buttons for SF style layout, also the semi curved 4 button neo layout, it also covers the MK3 layout.  Covered all around.  :)
