Mp3 Album track renaming
« on: April 15, 2005, 12:13:09 am »
Pardon my newbieness here!  Just got some mp3 albums but the tracks are not named as songs, just Track01.mp3 etc.  Is there a simple method/software to rename all the tracks/artists on an album without all the typing?  Any help appreciated.

My personal fave is Tag & Rename (http://www.softpointer.com/tr.htm), however it is not free.  I'm sure there are other free alternatives for what you want, but if you don't mind spending a few bucks, this software is well worth your while!   :)

Tag and Rename will only rename if the MP3 Tags are there.  If your tracks are named track01.mp3, do you think that the "ripper" went through the trouble of adding the MP3 tags?

This won't work in your situation either, but I also use a freeware program called Boones MP3 renamer.    It renames the files based on only the file names, no MP3 tags.  So if your file is named 01-album-artist-junk.mp3, you can reorder or remove certain things from the file name.

How can I find out if the MP3 tags are there?  There are some text files listing the album contents on some of the disks.  Will FreeDB help in this instance?  Excuse my ignorance and thanks for your help.

I use one called TagScanner.  I think it is freeware, but I'm not at home right now to check.  If you have all the tracks from an album, but with bad names, it has an option to go against the CDDB (actually FreeDB I think) to get the names.

Tag & Rename can import the information from Amazon.com, or you can manually enter the info. Seriously, it's the best at what it's designed to do (IMHO).  No harm in downloading the trial & seeing how it works.  If the tags are there, it will be pretty obvious when you view each directory, as not only does it list the files, but the tag info within.

I'll have to try and figure out how to connect to Amazon with tag & rename.

Trying out TagScanner and one called Godfather, each will work on some albums but not on others, weird.  Tutorials are non-existant.  I seem to find a method that works and then when I return to the program and try it again it doesn't.
Mostly "no album info available" messages when using freeDB.  Gonna keep plugging away, any other options, ideas or tutorials that you have found helpful?
Thanks for helping, making some progress..........

Tag & Rename will also search FreeDB.
