LF: Small LCD or TFT Screen
« on: April 14, 2005, 09:37:00 pm »
Looking for a small monitor/TV type screen. Around 5-8". Thinking of starting a handheld project (Dreamcast, N64, PS1, who knows....). Has to be cheap. I'll fully documentate in the projects forum (if off topic projects are allowed), and if I can find one cheap enough or donated. Thanks

Your best bet for a low cost 5" will probably be a VGA hack for a Sony PSOne LCD if you can find one.

Yeah, I've looked into those, but I can only find them for around 50CAD or so.

No, mine is 7".  I got it locally, but it's not really an isolated sale.

I don't understand.  The prices for those digital frames have always been $150-200, now I am being shown prices for $10-20 in Queens.

Are these legit?  Or are they just crap?   I would be inclined to buy one just for pictures.

Don't remember off the top of my head, I can check when I get home.  It's still in the box.

Do those frames actually have any kind of video input or would you have to hack something in?

Not sure, but I think it's running on a small amount of memory and firmware, and you load up the images via usb.  You would likely have to hack it up.

Would it be possible to hack a small LCD screen to accept an S-video input?

Yes, but assuming it has no standard input you'd need a controller for it (which would either cost lots of $ [in the hundreds of $] - or would require you to be an electronics wizard to make).
