Because you led people on with "free contest", and people discover that they have to make money for you first through completing offers. If you had said up front, "Hey, wouldn't it be great if there was one of these free offer sites for arcade parts? Well, I'm putting one together, come check back in a few days," you probably would have had all kinds of people coming to look. But the bait and switch left a poor taste in my mouth; I felt like a sucker when I got to the site, and the next site I checked out was http://www.mamemarquees.com .

I apologize for being blunt, but... well, you asked.

I just had a similar experience at the office. I got a box from Dell saying I had gotten a free Dell Digital Jukebox (Dell's version of the iPod). I opened it up to find a set of headphones and a blank space where the Dgital Jukebox woud be, and a card saying "To get the rest of the package go to this URL and enter this code". I did, and immediately got a call back from dell asking when I could sit down to a face-to-face meeting with a Dell sales rep, who would be delivering the Digital Jukebox.

Well, I scheduled the meeting (since we're already Dell customers, it should be really short), but I half expect to get just another piece of the DJ and a card saying "To get the next piece, call this number to meet with a member of our server sales team." <sigh>

Well, if I quit now, at least I have a pair of RCA HP155 auto-retractable earbuds....

Okay, I understand how most of you feel. I'll stick to my word and still give away two marquees for free. You just need to sign up at my new site, but need not complete any offers - fair?

This will be no different than the previous contest where you needed to sign up at my forum, which nobody had any problems with.

I'll post updates here on how close we are to 50 registered users.

"Screwed over" is pretty harsh... I'd go with "disappointed".

I agree that a change in topic may woo some back... and thank you, Emdkay, for making it right.

That said, I'm not sure how much interest there is for the trials and such, but for anyone already planning on a purchase, especially of hosting services, there are some potentially useful things in there... so, Emdkay, those two "truly free" marquees may do you better in the long run as people who had no intention of even looking (like me) see what's there.
