PC Monitor fading

I bought a new computer, so I forgot about this problem, but I just thought about you guys   Heres the problem:

You're playing a nice game of umm, lets say, Counterstrike. (not really, the computer is only 350 mhz).  All of a sudden, the screen starts fading to black.  It gets darker and darker until the entire screen just blans out.  This happens at random times, and the screen is a green Acer one that I got in.....1996?

First, make sure that powersave mode that involves screen blanking is not turned on in the Windows Control Panel.  If this is not the case, you may have a problem with the video card or monitor.

I have a feeling it's just the monitor, and some sort of connection has come loose during the last 10 years
