I just made by first official BYOAC related purchase! Congratulate me! ;D

I found an excellent site that takes you through the mouse hacking process step by step. I can't wait to get started once mine arrives. :)

Wow!  Congrats.   $10 is a good deal (if it's not all rusted out) Where'd you get it?

I got it on ebay from a respectable seller. It looks like it's in good condition other than a little bit of wear on the outside of the encasement, and all the wires appear to be in good condition.

Sounds like you got a good deal.

If you follow that guy's instructions, don't chop the connector off the trackball harness.  Get the correct mating connector and make an adapter.

He's like one of those people who installs a car stereo by chopping the factory radio connector off the car's wiring harness instead of buying the correct adapter harness.  That burns me up.

Yeah, I'll try to find the proper connector instead of chopping up the thing.

I'm not sure about mounting it though. I could just buy a mounting plate, but his method of raising the ball looks kind of interesting. Does having a higher ball help the gameplay signifigantly? Or should I just do it the typical way and have the ball lower?

His trackball looks like it comes out too much.  A little much for my taste, but IT does look interesting.  I would have to make a trial panel to try it out first before I would leave it like that.

not to bum you out from your good deal, but you'll probably need to invest in a bearing and...the-other-thing replacement kit.  might talk to ponyboy for that to get a good price, or get a kit from bob roberts.  all in all, it'll only cost you 30 bucks for a new-feeling trackball.

That's a good tutorial, or you could just buy a pre-hacked USB mouse from www.oscarcontrols.com for $9.

Nice snag on the T-ball, BTW!

I'm not entirely familiar with all the terms of the different trackball parts. I guess I'll wait till it arrives and check it out, and if those parts are more worn than I'm comfortable with I'll find out if Ponyboy has some replacements.
