Is this a good deal on a cabinet?????
« on: March 31, 2005, 12:09:29 pm »
So I was searching Craig's list in Tucson and found this: http://www.blackspeed.net/forsale/arcades.htm

it's the ol' Nintendo vs. with dual screens.  The dude is asking 300 for it,  but only has one board in it.  Vs golf.

So let me know if you think this is a good deal.  I'm thinking about buying it tomorrow..

Thanks again.

Matthew

I seen them go for a similar price or a little lower at the super auctions in Dallas. I had the dual upright vs machine - what a beast. I was dissapointed at the number of games for vs system. Playchoice has much more. Are you thinking of MAMEing it? They wedge those two monitors in a pretty tight space so it is a little cramped in there.

Make sure you scream it, too.

There is only one Star Wars cab there and $1500 is way too high for it.

I paid $50 for my red tent nintendo vs. cab. It only has golf in it too, but I am in the putting Super Mario Bros and Excite Bike in it.

Mine has been bumped arouns and is missing the coin doors on it. That one in that condition is at least worh $100-$150. Nothing more.

My Vs. Golf has only one board in it, but has chips on it to play golf on both sides. You only need to buy the roms to change the games in it and it's really easy to do.

Also, those games use a unique monitor size (17"), they fit nothing else, and nothing else fits them. Although sometimes people will shadily swap one of those little 17" ones into a Donkey Kong and hope no one notices.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Well for this cabinet I was going to stick with the original vs. machine and just try to get more games for it.

But I offered the lady 175 and haven't heard back from her.  Oh well, it's her loss if she thinks she's even going to get anything more for it....  The funny thing is she said she hasn't even been trying to sell them so she still has them around.... It's like w.t.f., make the money you can, right now, instead of waiting what could be another five years...

But hopefully i'll get an email back from her about the price.

So the lady emailed me back and said that price was OK.

The funny thing is though that I don't want it anymore.  It was stupid of me to want it in the first place, I have absolutely NO room for it...

And I decided to buy a PSP....

Wow, what a marvel of modern technology....

While many game manufacturers used "industry standard" parts, friggin Nintendo just had do do everything a bit different forcing an operator to deal with them for replacement parts. Just think about it. They made their buttons a hair smaller so that regular 1 1/8" buttons wouldn't fit. They liked to use oddball size Sanyo moniters. They used 5/8" partical board instead of 3/4" MDF or plywood and put them together with staples so that they fell apart sooner. I know there's a host of other shady tricks they've pulled that I can't think of at the moment. I know that companies do things like this to make more profit which is basically the bottom line but Nintendo always seemed to carry it a little too far.The same goes for their home console marketing. Over the years their product design ideas as well as their business ethics has made them out to be nothing less then *GREEDY* IMO. It just bugs me >:(
