Look what I won!!! (and some questions.)
« on: March 22, 2005, 06:52:18 am »
Ok I'm cheesing hard at the moment.   ;D

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6162992306
I won a Golden Tee 2004 Hard Drive/ Marquee/Trackball + Motherboard :-D

Now, a couple questions.

A) This needs a power supply.  Anyone know what type and where to get it?  This board should be here within a week and I need to make sure it works when it gets here.

B) I want to integrate this into my cabinet w/ a switch.  The cabinet has a 27" TV with composite only :-/ (I was going to use the RGB port, but it's TTL, so I only get like 8 colors or something weak like that :( ).  I remembered seeing some kind of RGB -> component converter before for arcade boards, but I don't remember where.  Does anyone know where I can get this as well?

Thanks in advance.

You will need a power supply and a JAMMA harness. As for the TV, order an arcade chassis for it from 8liners.com to convert it into an arcade monitor. Any other solution will be subpar and will cost more.

There is also someone selling 19" new happs monitors for less then 200 bucks shipped to your door.  Nice solution if you cant find anything used... or don't want to work on replacing the back side of a TV.

I thought the 8liners chassis convert a TV tube into a standard res arcade monitor.  I could be wrong, but I didn't think that Golden Tee Fore! 2004 used a standard res monitor?!

I just looked it up, it is medium resolution.

You are going to have to either buy a medium resolution monitor or buy a Happs conversion board (and have it look terrible).

Medium Res Monitor it'll have to be.

Now here's the other question:

Is it worth going out and buying a medium resolution monitor, or should I just shoot for one of the 27" multi resolution monitors? (D9200, etc?).

If that's the case, I definitely don't have the money at the moment.  Is there an interim CHEAP solution to the video issue (Granted, I know I'll be sacrificing quality).

Heh

I always find it funny how we tend to say we WON, when we get stuff off of ebay.

YAY, I just won a this or that, and all I have to do is buy it! :)

OK, I was looking on Happs for a monitor, and I came across this:

http://www.happcontrols.com/monitors/49054600.htm

It says it uses RGB TTL (positive or negative)

I've got a Proton VM-290 27" monitor in my cab with coax, composite, and a 9 PIN RGB TTL connector on it. (with a switch for positive or negative).

Now I had trouble getting this to work with the arcade VGA per this thread:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?board=4%3baction=display%3bthreadid=17274

But I'm not positive if this is a multisync monitor or not.  is there any chance I might have just severely lucked out here?

Well, life is good.

Apparently, the golden tee 2004 board has a dip switch to select between Med Res and Std Res video output.  Life is AWESOME.

You can buy a converter from www.jrok.com for about $75 to use the TV you have in standard res. I built a couple older portable golden tee games with that adapter. It works well with the S-video cable.

I had looked at JROK's converter as an option, but decided against it for 2 reasons.

A) there's some (though arguably maybe not much w/ JROK's adapter) loss in quality.
B) I've got a 27" tv in my cab now that's using composite, and it looks like crap.  This way I can put the golden tee and the PC in my cab, and just swap out control panels when I want to play the dedicated machine.

I will probably eventually make this a portable version, at which point I'll just get JROK's converter.
