Ultimarc Console Encoder Board?
« on: March 19, 2005, 09:35:45 am »
I didnt want to post under your product announcement Andy, but will we be able to chain a Playstation 2 board and an Xbox board together along with the IPAC?  Now for the ultimate question....  Do you plan to finish the console trifecta with Gamecube support?  ;)

wow.. ya know, I never even thought of that as stupid as that sounds.  Buying 3 boards from Andy, wiring all three, and being able to play MAME, ps2, and xbox in the same cab with minimal trouble/hacking......  cool.
first off your and idiot

Man I love the internet, haha.

In theory hooking up the I-PAC to the X-Box adaptor and PSX adaptor (when it's ready) at the same time using a Y-adaptor should work.
But the controls are only part of the story. You would need to have some kind of monitor switch and speaker switch. I think it would get rather messy.
I don't have any plans for a Gamecube interface.
By the way I hope to have the video/speaker adaptor cables and full JAMMA solution for the X-Box on the website soon.
The website is becoming a problem because of the design there is no space for more headings. I am still working out what to do about this.

Thats outstanding (sucks about the gamecube though).  My cabinet has a multi sync monitor and I am going to use an X2RGB upscaler to use on it.  It accepts RGB pinout.  Regardless, I have my monitor switching without an issue.  I just need a reliable encoder board for those two.  Plus I could always just use a KVM switch.  Then buy the Xbox encoder, a ps2 encoder, then a 3rd ps2 encoder and use a an adapter to connect to the gamecube.  Mount the switch for easy access and you would be good to go!

You should consider looking at a dreamcast at the some time.  I believe all the info is out (so it could be easy).... And its still the best console out there for arcade ports.

Plus it has the best hacking to a real arcade crt for all the consoles.

I would consider buying one... but I already have a dedicated dreamcast cabinet.  So it might be too late for me...  It would be nice to play gauntlet legends on my gauntlet cabinet though :)

The switching is the easy part:

1) Get a hotkey-compatible KVM switch (2 or 4 port depending on how many consoles/PCs you need) with Audio support, the IOGEAR ones are the best in my experience.

2) Andy's XBox and PS2 adapters use output from a standard PC keyboard cable from your I-Pac.  Run your I-Pac cable into the keyboard input on the KVM, then run a keyboard output to each PC/ console adapter.  Likewise, hook up the video and audio from each PC/console to the KVM.

3) Use the I-Pac utility to remap one of your CP buttons to Scroll Lock (or whatever hotkey your KVM uses, Iogear brand uses Scroll Lock).  Now double clicking this button will switch all audio, video, and control inputs to the console or PC of your choice!  (You will need to use a button that is not commonly used, and perhaps place it on your cab so that it is not accidentally hit, like on top of your cab.)
