Spinners - How to hook up? ? ?
« on: November 10, 2002, 11:01:52 am »
With all this talk about spinners, got me thinking to get my own.

For a DOS based MAME system, how does one physically hook up one of
these spinners???  Does it just plug into the mouse port???

Any other difficulties??

Thanks

It depends on the spinner. I don't think I've ever seen a spinner that plugs in directly. Most spinners need an interface like the opti-pac.http://www.ultimarc.com/optipac1.html

I've seen a lot of trackballs that connect directly to a ps/2 or serial port. But if you wanted to use an arcade origanal trackball or steering wheel you could use the opti-pac.
My statements are my own opinions. They have the value that the reader gives them. My opinion of my opinion varies between foolish and brilliant and these opinions often change with new information.

Oscar has several models that plug right in to your choice of PC port (serial, ps2, USB etc.) no extra interface needed.  His best spinner is the Oscar Pro, which does require an interface like the OptiPAC.
