Seeking odd cab examples
« on: March 18, 2005, 07:14:16 pm »
I am pondering making an odd cab.  It would essentially look like a TV stand that had a control panel on the front and a monitor on top. The monitor would be secured via a wood box.  To play, you would sit in front of the odd cab.  The cab would have wheels and could easily be stowed in my bedroom closet.  Here's my question.  Can anyone reccomend some odd cab examples to look at?  I mean cabs that are not coctail cabs, full cabs, or bar cabs.  Just cabs that would fit into the "other" catagory.  I have been searching through examples, but thought asking this question here would yield far superior results.  Thanks!

Any of the older cabs , mspac , moon patrol, etc are much smaller then new cabs , and those are widely documented build one of those and put some wheels on it, there small enough to move to a closet  when not in use.

well, it sounds like you want a pedastal containing a comp that you can roll in front of an existing tv to play mame, right?

Sounds like you want a sitdown cab like a Candy cab, or a Naomi, to me.

Shoot, pay me to build you one.  I guarantee it will be very very odd, especially in shape.   ;D

That was my original idea, but I think it would be easier to have a the pedestal have it's own monitor on top as opposed to trying to have it connect to a TV or my armoire monitor.  My thought now is some sort of compact arcade system where you play seated, but the monitor is upright (not flat like a table-top game).   I want the monitor upright so my daughters can see it and I want it to be a seat game so they can play it without climbing a stool.  My final requirement is, of course, that it can be stashed away in a closet.

I dig that candy cab.. That might be the perfect layout for me... where can I find dimensions or plans for a Candy cab?  Do I need to start a new thread to ask?

There are a couple people who have them here.
Hopefully one of them can help you.

Rats! KY is just to far to drive from CA.  That does look pretty close to what I will probably end up building.  Can you give me the basic dimensions?
