Switching from T-Stik to Happ Competition: mounting?
« on: March 18, 2005, 02:17:25 pm »
How different is the Happ vs. T-Stik mount? I just ordered some Happ Competitions to replace my T-Stik's, and I'm hoping I don't have to do major mods on CP.
Are the holes far enough apart that I can just pull the T-Stiks and make new holes for the Happ?

Thanks for the fast reply and the good news!
I thought I had read in the past that the mounting template for the T-Stik's wasn't standard, but then I couldn't find it again when I did a search.

They are NOT the same.
The Happ's have the holes farther apart than the T-stiks, so you should be OK--other than the old holes in your CP, if you went all the way through.

Any particular reason you're ditching the T-Sticks? I'm in the process of building a cab and was planning on using T-Sticks. Is there something I should know about them?

Pretty much what everyone says about the T-sticks is they have a very short, stiff throw.  I've changed the switches in mine so they're not so stiff, but the throw is still very short.  Not neccesarily bad, just different.  Now that I've built my cab, whenever I'm at an arcade I go around "feeling" the sticks and noticing the differences.  The T-stick has a much shorter throw than anything I've found in an arcade.  I still like mine, and the switchable feature of the Plus is why I got it - and it works great.

I like mine for some games, but use my Wicos most of the time.

The T-stiks are really good for games requiring movement in 8 distinct directions, but not so good at games that require the stick to be moved around in a circle smoothly.

They're OK, and will probably get moved to another machine (bartop), but I want a more traditional feel. The T-Stiks have a very short throw, and I actually wanted the 4/8 way switch so I got the +'s. I just found that the ability to switch wasn't all that important, and people that were playing for the first time on my cab still have huge problems with 4 way games due to the short, stiff throws, even in 4 way mode.

NoOne=NBA=: Thanks for the bad news!  :(  ;)
I had thought I read at one time that the T-Stiks were an oddball mounting pattern. It is kind of a bummer for me, since I did holes through both my plexi overlay and my MDF. Should have taken the extra half hour to countersink my stick bolts under that plexi!  :(

The Happ Competition mounting info can be found here:

The Ultimarc T-Stick mounting info can be found here:

Hope this helps...

I got the sticks today, and it looks like GGKoul was right! The inner set of holes on the Happs line up with the bolts on my panel for the T-Stik! This is a huge relief, since I took the bolts through the plexi.

Thanks for the info everyone.
