Peel off old laminate or laminate right over it?
« on: March 14, 2005, 02:21:31 pm »
Assuming the t-molding will hide the edges, I'm thinking it would be easier to just laminate over teh old stuff.  What do you guys think?

Indeed, plus if the old adhesive starts to give way...  your new lam comes right with it.   So yeah, the rough way is the proper way.

Besides, if you peel it, you get to see what's underneath.  I've got an empty Cinematronics cab here with ugly laminate on it, I can see the original white paint on one corner where the laminate is already chipped off- I can't wait to see the sideart and find out what game it started life as.

Just use some extra glue under the new lami , the right way is to remove the old but if its too much trouble throw it on top.

Break out the heat gun and grab some beer it can take some time; but in the long run it will be worth it.

Yeah it can, but you wiill need to hold it over an area for a minute or two before you can peel.

We use some type of solvent, like lacquer thinner. Put it in a squirt bottle like an old wood glue bottle or something like a squirt bottle (not a spray bottle). Drip it onto the edge of the laminate and it will come right up with a little work from a putty knife or painter's tool. Do this in a well ventilated area and wait until the solvent has evaporated before putting any contact adhesive for the new laminate on it.
