Source for surface mount LEDs
« on: March 13, 2005, 10:49:49 pm »
I am in need of some surface mount LEDs like the ones that come in the light harness for the IPAC.  Here is a picture of what I am looking for

Link To Image

I have searched all over the place but cant seem to find a good source.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Also can I wire these LEDs serially with the IPAQ harness.  I purchased one of the harnesses which goes to play one control panel and want the same lightes on the player two panel.  Can I just connect a wire between the player one LED and player two LED?

Regards.

KC

That is a panel mount LED.  You can find sevaral places that sell them with a Google search.  LEDtronics comes up first, but they can be a bit pricey.
If you wire two LEDs in serial, you will be reducing the voltage in the circuit.  Check that the total voltage drop across the LEDs is less than 5 volts.

Radioshack carries them in store. At least they do at my local Radio Shack.

Whoa!  Youd be better off buying them from the website than radioshack!  Radioshack is only if you need something so bad at that very moment.  Buy something for $0.59 a piece and sell it for $5.99 + tax :P  Thats the radioshack way!

E-Bay is a great place to buy all kinds of LEDs, particularly surface mount, superbright, etc.

All Electronics is a good place to buy various things (and a poor place to buy other things.)  They have a reasonably good selection of 3mm and 5mm LEDs as well as panel-mount holders for them.

If you're just buying a few, though, Radio Shack's convenience could easily be worth their lousy prices if they've got what you want.

Exaggerate much?  :)

RadioShack.Com Link

Package of 2 LEDs with chrome panel mount holders, $2.39.  And if you're getting it in your local store, you're not paying shipping.

I bought a pack of 20 leds yesterday for $3.99 from Radioshack. They had a pretty good selection of surface mount leds.

Do you mean panel-mount LEDs?  I don't think Radio Shack carries surface-mount components of any kind.
