I just got a Happ 3" trackball that came with a PS/2 interface kit.
There's an external power connector that I believe is supposed to be used with a wall wart transformer. I checked the specs on Happ's site, and it's 5VDC.
Is that power supply necessary? I plugged the PS/2 cable into my PC's mouse port, and it's recognized as a PS/2 mouse. The buttons work as the three mouse buttons. However, the trackball doesn't move the mouse cursor at all.
I tried pulling 5V from a power supply connector, but that appears to have possibly blown the PS/2 port's fuse or something, because it doesn't show up as a mouse anymore. I put it back on a different machine (PS/2 connection only), and it's recognized again (and the buttons work), but still no cursor movement.
When using PS/2 only, I only show 3.48VDC on the G/5V on the optical boards on the trackball. That doesn't seem right.
I'm guessing that the ball needs a full 5VDC to operate properly, but for some reason, what I pulled from the PC power supply didn't jive with the rest of the stuff.
The guy who sold me the ball is looking around for the wall wart (it's a $25 product at Happ), but I'd like to get this working.
What are my options? Get an Optipac and forego the PS/2 interface on this thing? Should the 5V from the power supply have worked okay? Are there any other voltages or anything I can check to see if this thing is working properly?
