Arcade Depot Cocktail Cabinet Kits...info required.
« on: March 13, 2005, 04:38:34 am »
Hi Guys,

I'm shelving the plans to make a bartop cabinet, and have thought about a cocktail cabinet instead - space wise, and practicality wise, it should suit the room and my needs more.

I have downloaded Kyle Lindstroms' MsPac-Man Cocktail Table plans...and they seem perfect, although due to my lack of woodworking skills, I think I may have problems with the top, and the control panel sides.

I had thought about purchasing an Arcade Depot Cocktail Cabinet kit...and if I was US based, I certainly would, but the UK price of

I have one and love it.  For someone like me who does not have a shop full of woodworking tools I think it is the way to go.

Don't know about the size in the plans.

The top is a little over one inch thick.

The metal panels form the front and the  top only.  ArcaadeDepot will cut holes to your specifications (recommended.)  I drilled the hole for a spinner for the player 2 side and I would hate to have to cut holes for buttons myself.

I also have the third control panel.  It is very solid (use glue.) The front is wood painted black.  The top is wood covered with black plexi.  The black painted wood is the only place on the cabinet that I would say could use some improvement.  The plywood layers are visible on the top edge of the front.

It mounts via a piano hinge under the front bottom edge and from screws from the inside of the cabinet into the plywood of the control panel's upper surface.

Space is tight in this panel.  I had to use a hole saw to remove some material under the joystick holes to provide for clearance for the shafts of my supers.

I later removed the supers and installed wico leafs.  This was very tight. I had to shorten the piano hinge in order to clear the joystick switch contacts.  The contacts also had to be bent past 90 degrees to even fit at the top of the joystick and the left of the player1 stick.
This was only necessary for the wicos though the happ joysticks fit fine with the previously mentioned modification.

I am very happy with the way the kit turned out.

Thanks for the info. Evlbeaver - that's just what I wanted to know.

Having studied Kyles' plans...I think I am going to make my own Cocktail cabinet, but it will be influenced by the Dream Arcades cocktail design - particularly their control panel design and attachment method.

I will use wood for the control panels...should be easier to work with, and will allow me to alter the dimensions of the control panel units, so I can fit my controls easier.

I've contacted both Mike's Arcade and Arcade Controls for parts to complete the order, and my Dad can get MDF or Plywood rough cut to size, which is handy...he also has all the woodworking tools and space required to build the cabinet too...and the bonus of him being on hand for advice.

He also knows a local glass cutter who can easily sort out the glass top...

So it looks like there are no major obstacles stopping me...only time and money
