"The Model 3 spinner has been released! Due to a new, universal optic board being used on all spinners, the Model 1 and Model 2 spinners have been discontinued, being replaced by the Model 3.

The new optic board being used on the Model 3 and Pro spinners can be connected directly to the Ultimarc Opti-PAC or Hagstrom Electronics encoder interfaces. The new optic board can also be connected to the optional USB mouse interface sold by Oscar Controls, making all spinners USB compatible."

That should answer your question.  Also the fact that you CAN'T order a model 1 or 2 from his page should answer that question too:)

Kelsey is making his life easier.  The model 3 is basically a "model 2".  You can make it a "model 1" with the mouse hack for it.  This way kelsey only makes one spinner instead of 2.  Cheaper for him, easier to keep up with demand, and a very smart move.

Thread hijack: plateless versus mounting plate - discuss amongst yourselves...

I think I'm going to abandon my sloppy wingman warrior hack and get an oscar 3 (or rather let mrs. rampy know i'd really like one for xmas)

I'll be installing in 3/4" MDF (or possibly 5/8")/... when you get the plateless you're supposed to specify thickness - is that adjustable, or ????

Maybe I should spend some more time on the oscarcontrols.com site before firing the question over here... but input/help is welcome.

Hey Sir Poonga, the original question was the Model 3 or the Pro.  No one besides you mentioned a Model 1 or 2.

You might want to E-mail Kelsey, as I don't have first-hand knowledge of any of them, but as I see it, the Pro has a better larger encoder wheel and heavier flywheel for longer spins.  The Model 3 cost less and uses less CP real estate.

I don't know how to weight out how much better it is, versus how much more it costs!!

i have both the model 1 (which is hte same as the model 3)and the pro, they both work awesomely, the pro is a little more accurate as there are more teeth on the encoder wheel, it also weighs a little mor eso its spins nice, the model one works great too though. i also have one plateless and one with a moutning plate, both ar eeasy to to do and look nice.

so sorry this probably doesnt help you make your desiscion, but gives you some info on both, i bought my pro first, then my model one.

The sensor is attached to the bottom of the wood via a bend of metal (I'll call it an "anchor") and the encoder wheel is placed a certain distance from the top of the cp.  So Kelsey would either needs to give you a different length "anchor" to screw the sensor on to, or place the encoder ring a different length shaft, or something of the like.  I'm guessing the first, but I bought my plateless model 1 a while back.

Question about the pro (gnateye?):  does the pro make the mouse go farther in windows that the model 1 with one rotation?  I think it would, but am curious.

Now that the pro is out, I want to try that one also, but I'm very satisfied with my model 1.

it doesnt seem to gofarther (though maybe a little) but it does move faster (justa little)

sorry i forgot to comment on the plateless depth, you have to tell him (oscar, actually kelsey) beforehand cause he uses differrent lenght shafts for the different cp thicknesses.

so it does make a difference, you may want to go with the mounting plate as one size fits all so to speak 8)

hopethat helps
