All,

I'm looking for someone in Michigan to split shipping on two Konami Windy cabs.

The cab says that it has free shipping to the US...why would you split the shipping charge?  Or am I missing something here...

He mentions the monitor multiple times, he just says it comes with no game board.

Thanks paige,

Yes, it does come with the 29" monitor and in addition to the Windy II models, he has Astro city and New Astro City models.  I'm really not sure what model I'd rather have.  Either way, it doesn't make sense for me to get one unless I can split the cost of shipping with someone.

Let me know (personal message or post a reply) if you are interested.

Have some additional photos from this guy...attached...BTW, Chicago is not too far away from me either so if someone there wants to split shipping let me know.

what resolution do those monitors have?
and what does he mean about rotating the monitor?
i think you can mount it either vertical or horizontal but you can't really rotate it can you?

They are standard resolution CGA monitors.  From some of the picutures I have seen on these cabs, you can actually rotate them.  Unfortunatly, you have to open the front cover to do so.  If you are interested, I can try to find the site that show this.  LMK.

I'd really like to know more about the rotating monitors mechanism if you have any links to share :)

On mine you pull the cover off the monitor, flip the plastic bezel inside the white frame, and then unbolt the monitor pull it out, and reinstall it vertical. It is easy except for the fact that you have to pick up and rotate a 29" monitor.

A few cany cabs actually have real rotating monitors, but most of them just have monitors that are really easy to swap to vertical (like mine).

I have seen 3 kinds of rotating monitor mounts for japanese cabs.  The first is just as paigeoliver said (and is the most common), where you have to phsycially remove the monitor from the cab, and put back rotated (all the astro's, and Neo's are like this).  The second is like my Exceleena cab where the monitor frame piviots on a groove, where you still need to pull the monitor off the mountings, but not all the way out the cabinet, and then rotate manually while in the groove.  Just slightly easier to do than the astro's.  The last is the old style Egret type mounting, where its put inside a wooden board that has plastic rollers that allow you to roll the monitor in place (the easiest yet).  The newer Egret II and III is more like the Astros.

That is the website I was talking about.  Looks like this is not standard though.  Too bad.

From what I've read "main improvements are to the sound quality"  other than that, I agree the old one looks better.

Yes, thats the Egret model with the wood/rollers mounting (and yes that how they come originally).

If you check out dynagod's egret project thread, you will see a pic with the wood/rolllers (his came busted, as well as a slew of other problems)...

How well would these type monitors work for a MAME cab?
and why is the WG 27" listed as a replacement for this 29" ?

The original 29" monitors in candy cabs are normally switchable (via a plug) std or med res.  They are only good if you have an arcadevga card (or something that can output at those frequencies).   The WG 27" and Betson Imperial 27" are listed as replacements because they are also 29" monitors (they just list as 27" viewable).

One thing worth noting is that Candy cabs use Japanese 100V power supplied and 100V monitors.  But if you upgrade to a WG or Betson, they usually come with their own power plug (for 120V).

This is getting off topic, so if you have more questions, post them in the "Arcade Miscellaneous" forum.
