Well, I think it would depend on who wanted it more.  That's what bidding is all about.  I don't mind ribbing other members that bid against me on eBay, but I don't discourage it.  Besides, others will probably start to bid an hour 'til close and the most a few secs before end.

As far as bidding against board members, it really all depends. I won't bid against anyone I personally KNOW in real life, or against longtime internet friends. But I can't memorize everyone on every web board I frequent.

There is an exception to that rule, it is usually considered fair game for everyone on a board to bid against each other on an item sold by another member of the board.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.
