In 12 hours the first race of the F1 season kicks off in Melbourne. If you have never watched the F1 before there is no better place to start than the first race!

First qualifying was pretty exciting.  While Massa was limping around on dry tires in the middle of a monsoon, Schumacher comes screaming by on intermediates.  About 5 seconds later Massa gets a call from the pits saying watch your rear Michael's about to pass.  Priceless!

I'm for Fisichella because he's got the balls to say he's the "favorite".  I'd love to seem him back it up.

With the new rules and the Ferraris qualifying near the back there should be some great racing tomorrow.

Fis, Webber & Trulli should be 1 2 3 and should be able to run a 2 stop race.  I love the fact the Schumey is going to be in the middle of the pack and will have to fight his way up.

8 hrs to go...

I was watching the first session of qualifying yesterday. They even got some hail on the track!

This is going to be one interesting race with the qualifying pack positions, single tire rule and the fast guys having to make up position on a track that is difficult to pass.

I think it's safe to say the fuel strategies will make or break this one....

GO WEBBER!

You know, this thread has changed my mind. I do miss that part of the GP. ;D

Out of curiosity, have they been using virtual ads on the broadcasts at all?

Not yet.

But they were trying something that made the car a virtual add.  So if the broadcast is taking place where Tobacco ads are allowed, you'll see a tobacco add.  If not, you'll see a different ad.

Hey I like the Italian Anthem :P  It sounds like a drinking song!

I may also be at the German GP and/or the US GP.

Congrats to Renault and Barichello for an awesome show.  Boo Schumacher for taking out Heidfeld.

How embarrassing. I forgotten I wrote that until reviewing this thread.

I woke up at 12:30pm on the floor next to my bed. Not sure how I got there. All day long at work I didn't know if I was gunna crap myself or spontaneously projectile vomit onto my monitor. It has been a long awful day.

I would say that F1 rating went down because of Schumacher's dominance.  But each F1 race is still the most viewed event behind the Olympics and the World Cup.

Ohh Drew. Now you have gone tooooo far. To even suggest that a single (especially a Aussie) F1 grid girl could be sporting male genitals is blasphemous.

I think you need to concentrate on the real importance of this image.

That just where I mark the point where the technology started becoming as important as the driver's ability. In another decade or two I expect the engineers will race the cars remotely via satellite link while the "drivers" do PR.

That way, when I meet her, I can ask her if she's got a little "American" in her....or should I help her with that ;D

F1 is all about blah, blah, blablah, blah money, politics, and blah.

Ya know, when extolling the virtues the FIRST time, these subjects NEVER came up.  The secret to generating excitement in your potential audience?  KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE AND WHAT EXCITES 'EM!  THINK, man, THINK!

You had me at "money", and then you topped it off with "politics"!

F1 is by far the most glamorous sporting event in the world.  There's no event that can complete with the amount of money these teams spend and the speed/noise these cars can generate.

It's the absolute pinnicle of motor racing.

DK, the next race is the Malaysia Grand Prix.  You can watch it live on Speed Channel on Sunday March 19 at 1:30am or the repeat at 12:30pm the same day.

But this is the sole purpose of F1! It is by definition the pinnacle of technology and the combination of team and driver ability. There can be no higher level of motor racing.

I understand your point and it's a good one, but there are other disciplines of motor racing that cater more towards sole driver ability and smaller budgets.

F1 is all about teams, technology, logistics, glamour, money, politics and driver. It should make no excuses and should not pretend to be anything else. It should be preserved at the highest level not castrated so it resembles other disciplines of motor racing.

I don't disagree, they tried that with the open wheel series over here and the result hit the ground with a dull thud. Progress is inevitable, but it seems to me in the march forward F1 has lost the essence of what racing is about. It should be driver, car, track, and the clock. Everything else is fluff. ;)
