Williams 2-way joystick
« on: March 04, 2005, 09:45:43 pm »
Hello, how do you set up a Williams 2-way joystick with Mame?  (Joust, Defender, Stargate)  The leaf switches look normally closed so that the joystick can return to center.  I know I can bend the leafs back, but then the joystick will have play in it.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Southpaw

I have one of these hooked up and you treat it exactly like a microswitch joystick.  Are you using an IPAC etc?  You shouldn't have to do anything different with it.

Yes, I have an i-pac.  Is your leaf switches normally closed (making contact) when the joystick is at it's center position?

Do you have a pic?

Thanks a ton!

The switches aren't supposed to be closed.  Close, but not closed.

Like most leaf switches, you'll have to adjust them.

Maybe you're misunderstanding how the leafswitches work.
There are two "blades" on a leaf-switch. They are slightly seperated, until the joystick pushes them together.

So, it's ok that there is one blade of each switch "holding" the joystick centered. Just make sure that there is a bit of a gap between that blade and the one just on the other side.
NO MORE!!
