Speaker Placement

My MAME cab is an old Assault mono cab, but I would like to make it stereo.
The electronics and woodworking are easy for me, but I don't know where to put the speakers.

It came with one very nice speaker mounted in the center.  I have two extra old car speakers available, but where do I put them?  Should I cut two holes to the sides  and leave the original one blank?  Should I put all three speakers in the top and wire the middle one to XOR the other two speakers?  Should I leave the one speaker and mount the other two underneath the control panel?

The stereo will be better without the center speaker.  The high notes would be better mounting it in direct line of sight instead of below the control panel.

 I agree with Jody. 

 In addition to adding left and right speakers...You might be able to pop just a grill over the empty hole (paint behind it black to mask the inside color)   and use it as a bass port.     

 Youll have to see if it sounds right...  as sometimes bass ports need to be the correct diameter.   Sometimes,  bass sounds better without ports as well.  Depends on the air volume,  how well things are sealed, and the type of speakers you are using.

The whole panel for the speakers is covered by a large grill, so no problem there.  The thing that really bugs me is the original speaker.  It's a really nice Happ shielded 4", but I only have one of them. (Has anyone else noticed Happ is finally displaying prices on the description pages?)

One more question: what should I use to seal the speaker chamber?  I tried wood glue, but it pulls away from the seam, leaving a gap.

Arcade speakers are pretty affordable. Buy one more from Bob Roberts.

I would not use the middle for the bass. It will sound better if the bass is farther from the highs. Keep it low to the ground.

a couple more ideas:

cover the entire panel with a laminate like formica before installing the new speakers

or  use the center hole for a black light
