Ultimate CPO
« on: March 03, 2005, 07:24:44 pm »
I am in the process of building an Ultimate CPO. It has to be able to play almost all kind of games.

CPO Specs:

Player 1 Controls:

Ultimarc T-Stick Plus (Primary) or Happ's Super/Ultimate/Competition/Optical360

Is it overkill? Yes.

Ever heard the phrase "jack of all trades, master of none?"

If you want to have all of these available, I would suggest modular or swappable CPs. When you get this many controls on a board, it stops making sense, and just reduces from the overall effect.

I think you mean CP Layout.

I like the T-stick better than Wico sticks and other soft longer-throwing sticks. Sue me. That's just a pref. I agree with 1up on the rest of the comments.

Hehe, I'm beginning to wonder if I got a bad T-stick!

Yeah, sounds like a lot of stuff.  Might be too cramped.  I guess it depends on how big the panel ends up being.  Given enough room anything can work.     ;)

I went modular for exactly this reason.

Yeah, but it'll sure look rediculous.

Looks are not always as important to some people as others.

If you do not care about having the best possible control in a game... then sure... use a 49way or other replacement.

However... if you want perfect control in the games you play... then your gona want as many real controllers as possible.

Any deviation and you are going to get disadvantages in gamplay.

IE:  I see there are no dual leaf 8ways... so robotron wont play too well for example.

Also, I noticed the idea to replace 8way with a 8way rotary.   Some rotaries have good control... some do not.  Depends on the brand.
Happs are like supers... which I do not like for fighters because of poor diagnol control.    SNK's newer mechanicals have a square restriction - so are better for diagnols - yet poor for circular games like
time pilot, robotron..ect.

It is very hard to combine all such controls easily on a single panel.  Which is why many people make swapable or rotating control panels.

I'm not even referring to "looks" really, I just think this is an unrealistic and wildly overblown selection of controls for one panel here. He's talking about 8 joysticks for 2 players. Less ultimate, and more rediculous. It's not even going to fulfill his desire to play everything... as you point out.

Get ALL of the real controls, that's fine, I recommend that. Just don't put them on one giant control jungle panel. Ultimately it's up to ripzone, he asked if it's overkill. For one panel I absolutely say yes... unless he's talking about the Xiaou style rotating mega panel, in which case I think he should up the ante and go with a decagon... minimum.

mahuti, i agree.

decagon ?! : )

6 sides were hard enough : )   As I had to make sure while standing at it.. that the controls werent poking you in odd places  ; )    Luckily, by alternating the longer controls with shorter ones...and that some panels could be ran at 90 degrees (driving controls).. it worked out great...

that is... till i reallized what Im now preaching about true controls.  IE - I didnt have any leaf joys for robotron.  Some other stuff as well.

New idea is horizontal rotation... which who knows... might end up decagon : )    Still in the design phase... could be a while...
