I was going to just PM this to Ken, but thought I'd post here for the value of everyone.

Recently BestBuy had a clearance on 23" tube Sylvania TV sets for $64. My friend picked up two of them to build 2 Mame machines, one vertical and one horizontal.

The tube and chassis are made by Funai (the tube states Funai under license from LG/Philips I believe).

The tube is A59KYL220X (59 cm/23.2 inches). 1.8 ohm Horizontal DC resistance, 7.8 ohm Vertical DC resistance 10 pins.

Sencore online CRT lookup has been removed :( so I can't doublecheck the pin layout and voltage ratings, but it looks like a standard 10 pin 20/25" style tube, just a very high deflection angle though.

Anyway... Looking at Video1963's auctions for the Weiya/Huai I Electronics/Eygo chassis (820 [20" high impedence], 1220 [20" low impedence], and presumably it appears, the 828 for the 25" low impedence), I'm wondering which chassis I need to get to drive the 23" low impedence tube----the 828 or the 1220?

I presume I need the 25" one to safely drive the 23" tube, correct?

Ken -- in the "Whoo mama" thread you said these Weiya chassis are much better than the Jenn-Shinn ones that 8liners sells.

That A59 tube uses a B&K socket adapter CR-23. Go to ionpool.net and you can download free the B&K Setup manual (a fairly recent one to boot!) which lists the socket adapters/tube cross reference.

That 7.8 ohm vertical resistance is on the low side. All the Weiya chassis are rated down to 9 ohms, but you'll just have to try it and see what (if any) pincushion you have. Here's the model number to get: "825H1" which is the 25" version of the 828 chassis.

The 1220 just wouldn't have enough oomph in the circuitry to drive a bigger tube than what it was designed for.

I've used several of the 19" and 20" Weiya monitors over the years in video games as replacements and I like the picture it puts out. Never done a side by side comparision though with other brands.
