I see you standing there, waiting for the bus, not knowing whether it is coming or going. Not knowing whether you are coming or going. Not knowing if bus A leaves Portland at 3 pm, traveling at 88 MPH, and bus B leaves Denver at 7 am, traveling at 32 MPH, how many sacks of dead fish you can buy for $18.13... the memory is just too painful. TOO PAINFUL!!!

Since when has Tarantino tried to be anything other than mainstream?  The movie DID start out as an indy film, with only an $8,000,000 budget.  And the only movie the guy had made prior to Pulp Fiction was the indy film Reservoir Dogs.  The film did go mainstream $200+ million worldwide in theaters, but that's just because it was so good.  Hell, the American Film Institute has it on their list of the 100 greatest American films over made.  Just who have you been talking to that pretends this film isn't mainstream?  Whoever they are, it's an anomoly -- not reflective of Pulp Fiction fans in general.

This movie has a following, not because fans treat it like it's some secret gem that only hardcore film buffs know about, but for the same reason The Godfather or Taxi Driver has a following....because it's just such a damn good movie.
