OT: Mattel handheld Football 2 and Baseball $7.77 @ Target
« on: October 27, 2002, 06:00:07 pm »
I got a Football 1 for my birthday, so when I saw this sale, I picked up a few.  There is an emulator for these at: http://www.peterhirschberg.com/handheld/ledhead/index.htm

I want to see if someone will hack one of these to a control panel  ;D

Football was my all time favorite handheld game! I think I wore the overlay right through, I played that thing so much!
If you build a frankenpanel, chances are I don't care for you as a person.

Emulate?  Hack a control panel?  Just get the real thing off Ebay for $4.99.  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1780447274

>> "Just get the real thing off Ebay for $4.99. "
Why deal with an eBay seller and pay for shipping when you don't have to?

>> "Emulate?"
Emulation is the main reason that this site is here.  There are several games on the emulator.

>> "Hack a control panel?"
That was a joke  ;D ... but I still wouldn't put it past someone to rig one of these handhelds to an arcade control panel.

Later ...

I dunno...maybe because having the real thing is even cooler!  Collecting stuff is a more interesting hobby than downloading emulators.  And I'd hazard a guess that if most people here had the time, money, and space, they would much rather have a basement full of their favorite original cabs!  ;)

Not quite.  As the name states, this site is here to help you "Build Your Own Arcade Controls."  That could just as well mean building controls for use with a real arcade game (as many people have).  Mame.net is an emulation site.  BYOAC is a HARDWARE site!

You have a fine grasp of the obvious ... but how many people would build the hardware if there weren't emulators to use them with?

Perhaps not as many, but there are still a lot of cabs out there with consoles inside, and no emulators whatsoever.\

I only stated the obvious because you seemed oblivious!  ;)

In your view perhaps, but I stand by my comments.

There is an old vector game called Barrier wich has a simular playing field and game play.  It is not foot ball, but it does have three lanes with attackers coming down. You manuever just like the football game.

Real Life.  Still a poor substitute for video games!

I have an original football 1 and it playes much BETTER than the newer ones. The buttons aren't the same at all IMHO. I think the game play is a little different also.
