Are these the ones turning up all over EBAY right now....I dont get it.
Its a 3" trackball with a PS2 interface, but does it actually work on a PC?

Are drivers required or is it seen as a mouse?

Yep, same thing. Yes they work right away on a PC. Unplug your mouse, plug this in. It has connections for 3 buttons on it.

PS2 doesnt mean playstation 2, its the little round plug like a keyboard, mice used to come in serial or ps/2 connectors, now they usually come with PS/2 or USB connects (or as a PS/2 with a USB adapter)

Does anyone know a way to make 2 of these work on a machine so 2-players can play at the same time?

I have been searching and a couple people mentioned a ps/2 splitter but I don't know if anyone has ever actually used 2 ps/2 mice and made it work.
They only way that I have seen it work is with serial mice and the ps/2 to serial adapters won't work with these.

If anyone can make this work I will want to keep these - otherwise - anyone want to trade one for an I-PAC?
I also would consider a Spinner - especially one that is ready with ps/2 or serial interface.

Well you only have one ps/2 slot so that's a limiting factor...   BUT there are ways to get two trackballs to work in general - I'd either search the main forum as it's been discussed there many times, or repost the specific query there.

My understanding is that it depends... like it won't work with XP... does work in DOS with special driver  (I'm guessing you'd need to use at least 1 ps/2 to serial port adapter) and possibly need to use analog MAME

I haevn't done it personally but there's a pair of guru's over in the main forum that may be able to help you with your 2 trackball query.

You can get Ps/2 to USB adapters (I think radio shack carries them) and use Analog Mame. Only problem is it doesn't work under XP.

Microsoft doesn't want people to easily have two or more users using a PC at the same time, which could be done with shareware if XP still supported independent addressing of mice and keyboards. With dual monitor support, USB, and high speed processors it should be easy to split a PC in half for office applications, but MS killed the idea by not supporting the needed calls in XP.  Needing another PC means needing another licence for Windows.

It still should be possible in 2K and 9x, but the idea could really catch on if it'd work in XP.  It's surprising that I haven't heard of any software that did this yet, though back in Win 95 days they had hardware that let you do this.

How are these mounted?  Do I need a mounting bracket of some type?  If that is included, I wish to purchase one from you.

If you have a thin panel, like metal or routed wood, you wont need a mounting plate. If not, then you'll have to buy one.

Method #2: win9x or winMe & two ps/2-->USB adapters (that windows would see as two separate mice) & Mame:Analog+

New twist, a site ( http://www.cpsc.ucalgary.ca/grouplab/software/SDGT/ ) that talks about multiple mice in XP only.  I'm looking into using the same methods in Analog+, but I would have to stop using the directX directInput for the mouse inputs and switch to the win32 API mouse messages.  Others might have better success, though, since I don't have XP to test on.

Method #1 could work if I could get ps2 to serial adapters that work. I have read that the inexpensive ones that come with mice work only with those mice. I have confirmed this when trying to use them with other mice myself.
I have heard of epensive adapters (like $100) that work with any ps2 device but no thanks!

Method #2 sounds like the best way - would seem to work fine with a couple of $10 ps2 to usbs.  I would like it to work in XP so that website you listed sounds interesting.
Let me know if you get anywhere with XP.

Definitely works with 2 mice in XP. I had 1 usb and 1 ps2 connected and I controlled 2 pointers!

Now if we can get this with Mame32!
