What do you use to create scanlines? A lot of the classics look pretty bad when not using scanlines, but the scanlines MAME makes pretty much looks like ass. Is there any other options?
And before anybody says, "Use a CRT", no it's not an option.

I'm not using one, but... if you print scanlines on a transparenct sheet, you might get a somewhat reasonable effect. Dunno, but it might work.

I was wondering how the overlay feature works in MAME. Could I create an overlay and have all my games use that?

I use a TFT screen and have scanlines disabled, and I'm happy with that.
I mostly play games from '84-'90.
