Look at this cabinet for project
« on: February 17, 2005, 11:10:37 am »
Ok so I want to mame an old arcade cab. I found this one for 40 bucks. As far as I know it does not work and is being sold as is. I have been told it would be a sin to mame but I don't really want to build a cab from scratch and if I don't buy it it will probably be tossed out in the trash. I already have an x-arcade controller and now I want to move up to a cab and use it as a jukebox and mame cab in my gameroom. I'm going with gameEx as a front end and I'm building the pc from scratch. Opinions please.  http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/the_scum1/detail?.dir=/mail&.dnm=d44a.jpg&.src=ph&.tok=phXgmiCBjSU7DSWU

I don't see a problem with it.

I'd like to use my 2 player x-arcade but I'm going to wait till I have the cab in hand to decide. Should I go with a tv or a pc monitor? I don't want to mess with the arcade monitor

Okay, I'll help you out since you don't seem to realise that you're feeding yourself to the wolves here. Build a proper control panel that fits your cab & transfer the guts from your x-arcade to that. Nobody here will take you seriously if you attach an xarcade to the front of a cab.

LOL I figured I might be sticking my neck out. Yes I was figuring to transfer the x-arcade controls to my own board. Obviously it would not fit otherwise. I can just see the x-arcade sitting on top of the cab.   :o

If you Mame that cabinet not many will help you.  You'll be the scourge of arcade guys everywhere.  To properly save it, since it might be 'tossed out' you must give it to a collector.   There are plenty of people here that will *give* you something better/generic in exchange.

Unless you Mame it tastefully, of course.  Don't want to mess with a arcade monitor?  Why the heck not?  Leave the controls stock, wire in a PC, and off you go.

hmm the guy said he would like to remove the monitor before I pick up but he would leave it in if I really wanted :)  He also has several other machines but is undecided on what he wants to do with them. I'm hope he want to sell so maybe I can just restore this one.  I'll let everyone know how it comes out. I'm going to pick it(them?) up on Tuesday.
