Sinistar Cockpit MAMED?
« on: February 16, 2005, 01:28:24 am »
I found a guy selling a Sinistar Cockpit -1982- 1 of 5000 produced or so he claims.  He is asking 750.00 O.B.O. is it worth that much.  He claims that it works great and that he has done recent work to the monitor and boards.  This is the sitdown version.

It would be fun to make it a MAME machine but if its collectible than maybe its worth getting anyway.

What do you guys think.  What is it really worth?

Sounds fair. I wouldn't pay it tho, as I'm not a Sinistar fan.

If you MAME a cab like that you're an idiot.  ;D

I was never big into Arcade games when I was younger LOL I'm only 27 but I am now have no idea what one of these would be worth, if it was a very unpopular game maybe I would mame it however if has a lot of collectible value or is a classic then no I wouldnt "harm" the beast.  What is one worth?

Go to an auction and buy some crappy non-working dynamo cabs for $50.

I am sure this comment will be argued, but almost everything 1987 and prior would be criminal to MAME in my opinion.

Remember... with good plans and a weekend you can build your own for about 150 new... Then the monitor...

2 4x8 3/4 mdf sheets (~60 bucks)
box of 1 1/4" screws (4)
woodglue (if you want) (1)
tmolding - (20)
tmolding router bit (20)
paint + rollers (15)

then some extras depending on keyboard drawer... ect.

19" new arcade crt (200 shipped)
or used for (40)
19" bezel  (15)

I wouldn't spend too much on a machine when you can get old for 50... and new for a 300 with new crt.  You will get more out of them.

 - UNLESS -

You want a good jamma cabinet and get a jpac + arcadevga.  This will allow you to unplug your PC and plug in original games...  Then getting a good real machine is worth it imho.

But you can always get broken machines for 20-50 bucks... And sand them down, wood glue, some paint... and they start looking new again.

Do not mame that Sinistar Cockpit. Its a unique cab and a hard one to find. Grab a cheap Dynamo as stated before and have at it.

I don't think he really wants to MAME said machine, he just looking for validation of it's worth.

Again, that seems pretty fair for the Sinistar, but the Moon Patrol seems expensive, unless it's fresh like new and you're a Moon Patrol fan.

Paying $600-$750 for a working classic and then making it into a MAME machine is just stupid. Putting aside the fact that you should never destroy a working classic for any reason, you can buy a dead cab for less than $50 and go to town with it.

I douubt 5000 Sinistar cockpits were made.  I would imagine that the number is more like 500. I could be wrong though.  That Moon Patrol is WAY over priced.  Like somebody stated previously, go to an auction and pick up a game that has already been converted.  Stuff in the dead row genrally ranges from $1-$50.

I definately wouldn't buy the Sini to MAME it.  First, it would be a darn shame to kill a rare game. Second, it would be expensive, compared to buying a dead, no-name, or stripped machine.

If you really want a cockpit to MAME, and you're anywhere near Northern CA, I've got one I've gotta get rid of.

I wouldn't actually ever MAME this machine.  I agree that the originals should stay that way unless beat and broken.  I am quite handi with wood and I am going to build my own.  I must admit it's kinda nice to have everyone defend the machine against  a potential MAMEING.
