KeyWiz Spiked?
« on: February 15, 2005, 11:57:24 am »
Hi -

I used the search function to see if a similar question had come up, so sorry if this is a repeat but I did try :)

I've had no response from RandyT, so hopefully someone here can offer advice: my KeyWiz 1.0 appears to be broken, although I may just be overlooking something simple. Running a ground and single-switch configuration and testing on a game in MAME shows that some inputs (i.e. Up) work, while most don't (any button, for example, despite reconfiguring the ingame controls).

??? Any advice? I've had this lying around for a while and have likely shorted/busted it in some way, but there are no obvious cosmetic indicators.  IPAC here I come?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Load up your Keywiz config and make sure that everything is mapped correctly.  I thought I had the same problem, but I screwed up my configuration.

The Keywiz 1.0 is really rugged (I think).  Hell, when I was testing it I downed the darn thing in Pepsi.  I simply cleaned it up and was good to go.

Good Luck!
David

Didn't you get the last E-mail I sent with the diagnostic software and troubleshooting questions/instructions?    I haven't heard from you for a couple of days and thought that you either figured out the problem or didn't have a chance to report back.

Let me know what the situation is or if you need me to re-send the email. The unit may not require repair, but it's hard to determine if that's the case without the info I requested

Thanks,
RandyT

Thanks for the advice and a big thanks to Randy: his ghostkey software (which eventually got through to me, stupid Gmail  :P ) works great.

I'd assumed the letters silk screened onto the KeyWiz corresponded to the default key for that input. For example I thought "A" would correspond to pressing the A key in MAME, instead of W. Looking at the Uploader software makes it all crystal clear now.

Thanks again,
Mike

I'd like to take credit for the software, but this amazingly useful little utility is from a different author.

I considered writing a similar one, but GhostKey works so well for what it was meant for, it just seemed like a waste of time :)

Glad you got things sorted out.
