Higher resolution intro movies?
« on: February 14, 2005, 10:47:41 pm »
Can anybody point me to a place that could give me a higher resolution introduction movie for my frontend? I am running it at 640 by 480 and the clips get awfully pixelated. If anybody knows of a higher resolution Arcade84 that'd be amazing...

Thanks!

since most games originally run at 320x240 or lower... you could record them pixilated at 640x480... but you might as well save them in their original size... and stretch them at the last minute.

Also look at the software forum and the movie maker... I believe you can make your own at any resolution you want.

This is where laziness takes hold. I don't really know how to use the movie maker and I was just hoping that somebody could help me out with a better looking intro movie if they knew of one. Thank you

Are you talking about a 1-off movie that plays when you start your cab or movies for each of the games? I'm not sure what Arcade84 is....

It's this pretty killer movie that goes through a virtual arcade and it makes a great introduction movie when you start your frontend. The problem is that it is too low res to look decent when it is stretched to 640 by 480.

There is a clip on this website. It is under downloads and movies. It's the 3d one with the Styx song playing

I've emailed the author...

Do you have a higher resolution
version other than the 33mb on the site?

Yep.  The original.  It's a bout 2GB.  I plan a DVD release sometime in the
future.  Stay tuned.

It would be nice if the frontend provided an option to play the intro movie at it's original size, wiithout expanding it to full screen. I haven't seen a way to do that in Mamewah. Hey, another wish list item! :-)

Meanwhile, if you don't mind a large black border around your intro movie, you can always take a lower resolution movie such as arcade84.mpg and run it through TMPGEnc (do a Google search) to create a 640X480 movie with the original movie centered in the middle of the screen. It takes a bit of playing around with settings, but it can be done, and it is one way to get rid of the pixelation.
