Good Idea? Or Freakin Ridiculous?
« on: February 13, 2005, 11:40:59 pm »
Come on i want some feed back on this.....

i'm thinkin of building this next school holidays. (mid march) you kno those 60 in 1 games (ok its like 10 in 1 and 50+ repeats) that you plug into the tv? well i'm thinkin of hacking the 2 player and gun ones and enclosing them in a box. lets say 2 happs 4/8 ways 2 buttons each 1 reset button and have a gun holster on the side. will run the the usual batteries but i'll probably need some help with the switch.

What do you guys think? is it the ultimate portable tv game? or just a waste of time and i should just study and pass year nine?

This has been done, but that never should stop you if you want to do it.

The "it'll use batteries" part is the MAIN "freakin ridiculous" part of the plan.  If you're going to do this, figure out what size power adapter you require and hack one of those.  Constantly putting batteries back in that thing will wear QUICKLY on you.

Other than that, I'm wondering why you just don't build a bartop MAME machine - you'll end up with more games, and probably get more use out of it.

Wait, your revolutionary cool "never been done" cab is finished and you didn't let us know?!?! Show us pics!!!

As for the topic here, I'd agree that once you start combining a bunch of those little TV games, it becomes less of a good idea (unless you get them for free?). Cuz eventually your cost reaches a point where you could just buy yourself a used computer and make it a MAME machine (even an OLD computer will run the classics).

As for gun games, what are you talking about? (show us links).
NO MORE!!

Vantage seems to be a nice solution for stuff like this.

Gun games on something like this seem like they'd be stuff like Duck Hunt or some other old game system stuff.

It also uses a ac plug.

Ehhhhh... sounds good for a lark, but not exactly a "set the world aflame" idea in my book.
