Mouse -> Joystick... any software out there?
« on: October 24, 2002, 12:28:22 pm »
I just picked up a copy of Crazy Taxi for the PC.  This was GREAT since it was the one game I was going to try to get a DC running in my cabinet for.

Anyway, it plays GREAT!  Fun!  I still don't know to play the game that well (only played it at store demos and a few times at an arcade)

Trouble is, it doesn't take mouse input... and I am going to install a PolePosition wheel connected to a hacked mouse.

So what now?  Am I stuck?

thanks

I'm sure I've seen the opposite... joytomouse... let me look.

EDIT 1

"JoyEmu and JoyEm are two TSR programs that, when installed, poll joystick port and mouse and stuff keyboard buffer simulating keypresses according to device movements; keys to be stuffed, autofire rates, joystick sensibility and read mode, mouse sensibility are only a few of the many settings that can be changed. "

If crazy cab takes keyboard input you could simulate it with a mouse.... hypothetically with this TSR, maybe... =P

EDIT 2

http://www.geocities.com/adi001/mouse.htm this guy did an electronic hack that maybe would work for you (might have to switch from joystick emulation mode to normal spinner mode or something when not playing crazy cab... )

good luck...

EDIT 3 never mind edit 2... it's not quite what you were looking to do... but there should be a way electronically of maybe rerouting/changing the signal from a mouse to a joystick port/driver/something/anything =P

sick of editing... =P

I couldn't find anything off hand... but it seems to me that some sort of wrapper that would do what you want is possible to create.. .just no one has wanted to create one of those yet =P

How about this one on the utilities page of this site:

http://www.arcadecontrols.com/arcade_downloads.shtml#Utilities

The one called JoyEmu looks interesting.  I'm also interested in this since I have a Pole Position cab with a mouse hack.  Would be nice to be able to play the non-analog games like Chase HQ with my mouse hack steering wheel if this works.  Let me know if you have any luck.
