cameltry controls
« on: February 10, 2005, 06:48:21 pm »
Using the keyboard cameltry works correctly and I can navigate around just fine.

If I enable the joystick then I can't get the vertical direction working. I can only roll the ball left and right.

Since I don't have a spinner is there a way to configure the joystick to work with this game? I've tried setting the up/down/left/right using the joystick but that didn't change anything.

Thanks in advance.

Maybe I'm missing sometihing, but Cameltry only uses left/right?  I mean, that's all a spinner is....So as long as you're getting the left/right response from your joystick I'd say you're in business.

You're not controlling the BALL, you're controlling the SCREEN. Left rotates the screen one way, and RIGHT rotates it the other. Gravity makes the ball move.

NO MORE!!

Tried it with an analog joystick and it won't work.  Works fine with my spinner.

I use either a spinner or trackball. Both work fine.

So why would a spinner or trackball be any different than a joystick for controlling just your left/right movement?

Especially since the keyboard works I would expect that I could get an analog joystick working as well. Perhaps not but I'd like some reasonable idea as to why.,

Spinners and Analog sticks do work differently.

the board? Only for a paperweight.

The game is really fun. One of my favorites, but I absolutely think it requires a spinner. Without it, it just isn't that much fun.

Ok, I'm trying to decide if I need a spinner on my control panel I am designing. I know that cameltry doesn't work with the usb joystick because the usb joystick doesn't send the same keystroks that the arrow keys do. When the control panel is complete the joystick I use will be wired via an ipac and since the ipac will send up/down/left/right like the arrow keys my guess is that cameltry will work properly then.

However, since I don't have a tsilk to test with I can't say for sure. Can anyone test this out for me? If I can get cameltry working with a tsilk then for my purposes I won't need the spinner.

It'll work with a T-stick, but no better than it works with a keyboard.  You won't have the speed control that comes from using a spinner.  The screen will always rotate at the same, fixed rate, making it very hard to make the ball change directions quickly.  You'll be able to play, but never play well.

i've played the game with my t-stick plus (wired through a mini-pac).  you only use left and right.  it's playable but i imagine that it would be easier with a spinner because you could control the speed at which the maze rotates.  if you've never played it with a spinner then it probably wouldn't bother you.
