4 NES Controllers
« on: February 01, 2005, 06:29:28 pm »
How would I go about attaching 4 NES controllers to 1 parallel port?

I can find attaching 1 or 2 controllers but a wiring diagram for 4 would be helpful ( or 5 if someone can tell me what games used 5)

thx

I don't think any NES game used more than 4 controllers.  The 4 player adapters took up both inputs in the front of the machine.  I can't help with the diagrams though.

@coach - DPadPro has 5 NES controller support which is why I was wondering...

@Jakobud - Thanks for the link but I already know about the FourScore... This is for the wireless controls I'm designing right now. The FourScore would add a lot of unnecessary space and extra components and would cost about 100USD extra to implement. I'm really looking for a parallel port solution here. Thanks

Actually, there were a couple of games that support 4 player on NES.

NES Play Action Football
Off Road
Kings of the Beach

Not many but there are some.

Yea offroad was one of my NES favorites. I wonder why there's support for 5 NES controllers in DPadPro if no gaes used 5 controllers *shrug*

Has anyone actually connected 4 NES controllers w/o the FourScore???

Basically, the support is there because it could be done within the capabilities of the parallel port.  NES game support doesn't have much to do with it.  Of course, you could use the NES controllers for TG-16 games...  Five players is perfect for Bomberman.

To connect four gamepads to the parallel port, use the wiring diagram for five but leave one of them out.  :)

I haven't successfully used DPadPro.  I tried once, like five years ago, couldn't get it to work, then discovered the joys of USB gamepads and haven't looked back.  Maybe you'll fare better.

Wow. I feel stupid. I've been searching all over the place for how to hook up 4 NES controllers but when I look for 5 I find DPadPro's site that I didn't even realize had the instructions for 1,2,3,4, or 5 controllers. Thx for the info! =D

Could you send me the info for the snes. I did the usb conversion for my nes, now need a way to do my snes. The parallel idea may be a cheaper route.
